Cristiano Ronaldo is supported in his potential dramatic return to Manchester United, with a rival manager expressing admiration for Erik ten Hag’s transfer target.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s Potential Second Manchester United Return and Ten Hag’s Transfer Challenges
Cristiano Ronaldo could make a dramatic return to Manchester United in a non-playing capacity, according to former teammate Louis Saha. The legendary forward, who previously dazzled Old Trafford between 2021 and 2022, is reportedly being backed to return to the club in a coaching or managerial role, a move that would mark a sensational second chapter at United.

Ronaldo’s initial return to Manchester United in August 2021 was met with high expectations. The club paid Juventus £12.9 million, with additional performance-related add-ons potentially increasing the total fee to £19.8 million. Despite being past his prime, Ronaldo scored 24 goals in 38 appearances during his first season back, including 18 Premier League goals, giving United fans a glimmer of hope amid a disappointing campaign that saw them finish sixth in the league.

However, Ronaldo’s second stint at United was marred by conflicts with then-manager Erik ten Hag, who favored a different style of play and often left Ronaldo on the bench. The tension culminated in Ronaldo’s critical interview and subsequent departure from the club in November 2022. He joined Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, where he has excelled, scoring 60 goals in 66 matches.
Saha, who played alongside Ronaldo at United from 2004 to 2008, believes the forward will return to the club in a different role. “Cristiano has the passion and dedication to come back to Manchester United, possibly as a coach or even a manager,” Saha said. “His previous stint didn’t end as hoped, but his experience and commitment will serve him well in a future role at the club.”
Meanwhile, Erik ten Hag faces the possibility of missing out on a key midfield target as he continues to rebuild United’s squad. The evolving situation highlights both the enduring impact of Ronaldo’s legacy and the ongoing challenges faced by United’s current management.
