Pep Guardiola has publicly expressed his sympathy for Erik ten Hag following the Dutchman’s recent dismissal from Manchester United, stating the intense pressures managers face in the modern game as reported by Daily Express.

Ten Hag, who faced Guardiola’s Manchester City side seven times during his brief tenure, managed only one victory, securing a memorable FA Cup win last season.

This single triumph was reportedly key in temporarily preserving his position at Old Trafford.

Following Manchester United’s decision to part ways with Ten Hag, influenced by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS, Guardiola shared his thoughts on the managerial profession’s unique challenges.

On Ten Hag’s time at United, Guardiola said, “I feel sorry for managers when they lose their position, I am so sorry for him. I have an incredible relationship [with him], he represented United in the highest level in terms of behaviour.”

“Our job as a manager is one of the few jobs out of all the jobs in the world where the people are expecting them to be sacked,” he explained. “I don’t see architects, or doctors, or teachers, or anyone the people saying ‘get out’. It’s only us.”

With high hopes for Ten Hag’s future, Guardiola extended well wishes to his former colleague, saying, “I wish him all the best, he and his family, and of course he’s going to come back stronger.”

Bruno Fernandes, the captain of Manchester United, shared his gratitude towards the recently sacked manager Erik ten Hag on social media following the club’s announcement of his departure. In a post on Instagram, Fernandes thanked Ten Hag for his time at the club and the trust he had shown in him. Despite the challenging period the team had been going through, Fernandes reflected on the positive moments they had shared under Ten Hag’s leadership and wished him all the best for the future.

Ten Hag had appointed Fernandes as club captain during his time at Manchester United, a decision that saw the team clinch victory in the FA Cup last season. However, the team’s poor performance at the start of the current campaign proved to be detrimental to Ten Hag’s position, ultimately leading to his dismissal from the club. Fernandes’ acknowledgment of Ten Hag’s impact on the team highlights the respect and appreciation he had for the former manager during their time working together.

Manchester United’s struggles in the Premier League continue, with their current tally of 11 points marking their second-lowest after nine games in a season. Only the 2019-20 campaign saw a worse start, with just 10 points at this stage.

The drama at the London Stadium didn’t disappoint, especially for fans who craved action after a tense first half. The second period was explosive, as West Ham emerged victorious in a thrilling 2-1 win over Manchester United, a game full of twists and controversy.

After weathering United’s pressure in the first half, West Ham came to life. Julen Lopetegui’s substitutes made a huge impact, with Crysencio Summerville striking at the far post to break the deadlock, igniting wild celebrations among the home fans. But the Hammers’ lead was short-lived; just seven minutes later, Casemiro headed home to bring United level. The game seemed destined for a draw until a pivotal moment late on: a collision between Danny Ings and Matthijs de Ligt prompted a lengthy VAR review. The referee eventually pointed to the spot, and Jarrod Bowen coolly converted the penalty to seal the win for West Ham.

The victory not only lifted the Hammers above United to 13th place but also added pressure on both Lopetegui and Erik ten Hag, whose futures appear increasingly uncertain.

Manchester United’s next 5 PL matches

Looking ahead, United face a tough schedule in their next five Premier League matches. Chelsea, riding a wave of momentum under Enzo Maresca, will visit Old Trafford on November 3rd, followed by newly promoted Leicester City. United then take on Ipswich Town on November 24th, a fixture that brings back memories of a comfortable 3-0 EFL Cup win for United in 2015, courtesy of goals from Wayne Rooney, Andreas Pereira, and Anthony Martial.

The challenge continues with a home clash against Everton before a trip to the Emirates on December 4th, where United will face Arsenal. The Gunners have had the upper hand in recent meetings, winning three of the last five encounters. The upcoming fixtures promise high stakes as United look to recover from their slow start and get their season back on track.
