Erik ten Hag admits one player could return this week ahead of two crucial United matches
Following Manchester United’s 3-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion, attention now turns to the start of the UEFA Champions League.
It’s a difficult start for United as they face Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena and the Red Devils will be hoping for a good start in the competition
United currently have several players injured or absent from the club due to disciplinary issues and the team is currently in a bit of a crisis.
Erik ten Hag was asked for updates on injuries ahead of the decisive match in Munich.
A player could return
Speaking to United’s website, Ten Hag gave a positive update on the injured players and said one player could return to the squad
Maybe one player, but I think Munich are a little short,” said the Dutch coach in what would be a timely boost as the games finally get a little easier.
Furthermore, the Dutchman said: “But I think if we go to Burnley the following week, the players will come back, yes.”
Who could return next week
As it stands, United have a lot of injury problems. It seems unlikely that Luke Shaw or Tyrell Malacia were the players Ten Hag was referring to, as both’s injuries appear to be long-term.
Sofyan Amrabat and Mason Mount could well be the duo to return for next week’s game against Bayern Munich or Burnley, providing a timely boost to Ten Hag.
Amrabat, who joined the club on loan on deadline day, could be the defensive steel and playing confidence that United have been lacking.
According to The Athletic, Mount has set his sights on Wednesday’s match against Bayern as his return date and hopes to finally make an impact for United.
