Evening News: He may not play for a very long time Man Utd manger gives update on injury list

According to Evening Standard, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is hopeful that Jonny Evans will return to bolster his injury-hit squad for their upcoming Premier League clash against West Ham on Sunday.

Evans missed United’s recent 1-1 draw with Fenerbahce, having picked up a knock in the team’s comeback victory over Brentford last weekend. Captain Bruno Fernandes, who sat out of Thursday’s game due to suspension, will be available for the trip to London.

The team stayed overnight in Turkey after the Fenerbahce match, opting for a brief training session before their return to the UK. Just as they did after their earlier match in Porto, United made quick travel plans to prepare for their next fixture.

“We’re staying overnight, and then we go straight to London,” Ten Hag explained in his press conference early Friday. “We have to be ready, short turnaround, and we expect of course Bruno (Fernandes) back, and hopefully also Jonny Evans.”

The manager’s concerns are heightened due to the long list of absentees in Turkey, with 10 players unavailable for the match.

The team’s injury woes deepened as winger Antony sustained an injury soon after coming on in the latter stages of the game.

He left the field on a stretcher and exited the stadium on crutches, his left foot in a protective boot.

On Antony’s condition, Ten Hag said: “I haven’t seen it. It’s only then I have to tell you out of the second hand, so from the doctor and the physio who told me what they saw. So, first I have to see the video before I can give comment on this. I don’t know (the severity).”

Europa League: Ref Right To Turn Down Osayi-Samuel’s Penalty Claim Vs Man United –Meulensteen

Super Eagles star Bright Osayi-Samuel has been criticized by former Fulham manager René Meulensteen for his false penalty claim in Fenerbahce’s 1-1 draw against Manchester United in Thursday’s Europa League.

The Nigerian international, who was issued a yellow card before being substituted later in the game, was accused of attempting to fool the center referee, Clement Turpin, after he was challenged by Man United defender Manuel Ugarte.

Reacting to the incident, Meulensteen, in his commentary with BBC Radio 5 Live, condemned Osayi-Samuel’s tactics.

“Osayi-Samuel made a meal of it, and they tried to unsettle the rea feree with the crowd,” he said.

“Fenerbahce have to be careful as we have VAR to look at it. The referee got it correct straight away.”

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has given an update on Antony’s injury after the winger was stretchered off during Thursday’s 1-1 Europa League clash against Fenerbahce in Istanbul as reported by Evening Standard.

The Brazilian, who replaced Marcus Rashford in the 73rd minute, had to leave the game only 16 minutes later due to an apparent injury, dampening the team’s night further.

This latest setback is part of an ongoing struggle for Antony, who has found game time limited under Ten Hag.

So far this season, he has only managed five appearances across all competitions, as United contend with inconsistent performances and a mounting injury list.

“It’s really unlucky for him,” Ten Hag shared with MUTV. “I feel real compassion for him, when he worked so hard in training. His training performances are that good that he deserved to come on. When you have to come off so quickly, that is really sad to see.”

The injury comes at a challenging time for United, with several players already sidelined. Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount, and Jonny Evans were not in the 20-man squad for the Turkish trip, while other key players like Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire, Tyrell Malacia, and Luke Shaw also remain unavailable.

Antony’s condition is set to be assessed further within 24 hours.

Despite the setback, Ten Hag received some positive news with captain Bruno Fernandes set to return for the upcoming Premier League fixture against West Ham, following a suspension served in Europe.

The manager is hoping that Antony’s injury won’t add to the growing list of long-term absences.
