Expert says Ten Hag should be sacked after Man Utd ‘whisper’

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag’s job at Old Trafford is secure for now; However, according to one expert, rumors about the Dutchman will continue to circulate if the club’s results do not improve.

Updates from Man Utd

This season, Manchester United have indulged in deception and a culture of toxicity has taken hold at Old Trafford, on and off the pitch. Off-field incidents involving Jadon Sancho and Antony alongside loanee Mason Greenwood caused mass hysteria off the field.

Of course, the ongoing takeover saga at Man Utd has continued to destabilize the Premier League giants’ progress in the transfer market. However, after a long and drawn-out process, the Red Devils finally appear to be close to securing investment from Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his petrochemical company Ineos, as reported by The Times.

In terms of results, United lost five of their first 10 games in England’s top flight and lost the fear factor that accompanied their away opponents at Old Trafford in previous years. Added to this was Manchester City on Sunday, who comfortably eliminated their rivals with a score of 3-0 thanks to a brace from Erling Haaland and a brace from Phil Foden.

Former Wales midfielder Robbie Savage spoke out on Manchester United’s recruitment in the wake of the Red Devils’ comprehensive defeat against Manchester City, saying: ‘You have to look at recruitment for Manchester United. Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans and Reguilon are three of your four defenders who will finish Manchester United’s match against your rivals at Old Trafford.

In the Champions League, the Red Devils have won just one of their first three group stage matches, in a dramatic but unconvincing 1-0 win over Copenhagen at Old Trafford last weekend; However, doubts remain about Ten Hag’s ability to turn around the fortunes of his under-performing team.

Alan Hutton withdraws dismissal of Erik ten Hag

Speaking to Football Insider, BBC pundit Alan Hutton indicated that he does not believe Ten Hag’s immediate future is in danger, despite recent reports that Ratcliffe and Man Utd could be eyeing former Chelsea manager Graham Potter. However, the former Scotland international insists there will be rumors about his future and possible replacements if results at Old Trafford do not improve. “You just have to look at what he did last season. It might not be great for all the Manchester United fans and what they’ve done in the past, but it’s where they are at the moment, they’re building something from scratch and it takes time.

“I think they spent a lot of money and some signings haven’t gone through yet, but the rumors I hear always circulate among the big clubs, especially when it comes to acquisitions. Sometimes they’re just rumors. If the results are in doubt, turn drastic and end up leaving the European positions, then they could try to change the situation. He hasn’t been in goal for long, so I think he will have his time, but as we know at big clubs it can be difficult if you don’t win games. I think he’s in a good place right now.”

Manchester United have no time to wallow or feel sorry for themselves as Newcastle United await the EFL Cup final 16 at Old Trafford on Wednesday night.

Manchester United suffered a 3-0 defeat to Manchester City at Old Trafford yesterday in their fifth Premier League defeat of 2023/24, but they could have scored more goals had Andre Onana not made some incredible saves.

However, former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer believes the Cameroonian international goalkeeper should have done better to prevent the visitors from scoring their third goal.

Onana saved Rodri’s shot from outside the area into the path of Erling Braut Haaland, and the Manchester City hitman passed to Phil Foden to slot the England international into an empty net from close range. The Manchester United goalkeeper could not prevent the goal, but Shearer believes he could have done better with Rodri’s shot.

“The goalkeeper, I mean, I know he made some good saves today, but what did he do for the third goal?,” the former Three Lions star said on the Rest is Football podcast.

Onana putting the ball into Haaland’s path didn’t help matters, and a goalkeeper of his quality and experience should certainly do better.

Preventing Manchester City from scoring their third goal would not have saved Manchester United who did not threaten at the other end.

The hosts attempted just seven shots, three of which went on target, while Pep Guardiola’s team managed ten of their 21 attempts. The gap in quality between the two sides was evident and Onana couldn’t have done better.

His defense and coach Erik ten Hag’s playing style have let him down, and although he has not been hiding in glory since arriving from Inter this summer after several errors and errors, Onana cannot be blamed for the yesterday’s defeat.

Against Manchester City he was Manchester United’s best player on the pitch, making seven saves, three of which were against Haaland.

Onana also had 55 touches with 32 successful passes and seven long balls, and he hopes to continue to impress regularly and go from strength to strength in the future.
