Former England football and Man City manager has passed away at the age of 76 as a result of cancer

Sven-Goran Eriksson, the former England football manager, has passed away at the age of 76 after battling pancreatic cancer. The Swedish coach, known for leading England from 2001 to 2006, was surrounded by his family during his final moments. According to Daily Mail report.

Eriksson made history as the first foreign manager of the England national team. During his tenure, he guided the “Golden Generation” of players, including David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, and Wayne Rooney, to the quarter-finals of the 2002 and 2006 World Cups and Euro 2004. One of his most memorable achievements was England’s 5-1 victory over Germany in a World Cup qualifier in Munich in 2001.

Before taking on the England job, Eriksson enjoyed a successful club career, winning major trophies with teams like Lazio and Benfica. He later managed clubs in various countries, including Manchester City and Leicester City, and coached national teams such as Mexico and Ivory Coast.

Prince William, a patron of the Football Association, paid tribute to Eriksson, describing him as a “true gentleman of the game” who always displayed charisma and passion. The Football Association and many of Eriksson’s former players also expressed their condolences and gratitude for his contributions to English football.

Eriksson’s family has requested privacy during this time of mourning, and tributes continue to pour in from the football community and fans around the world.

Erik ten Hag will be counting the days until Rasmus Hojlund can return to training at Manchester United.

The Red Devils suffered a frustrating 2-1 loss to Brighton on Saturday afternoon with Joao Pedro’s late goal stealing all three points for the hosts.

There were signs of promise in United’s performance despite the scoreline, but missed chances and a terrible VAR decision to rule out Alejandro Garnacho’s goal ended up proving costly.

Ten Hag decided to start £36million summer signing Joshua Zirzkee on the bench despite his late winner against Fulham in the Premier League opener.

Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount started in advanced positions but the duo continued to waste chances – just as they did against Fulham the week prior.

With the Premier League weekend now concluded, United sit at the top of one alarming statistic…

Man United top alarming Premier League stat

With week two of the Premier League now finished, United sit 11th in the table and a blockbuster clash against Liverpool is on the horizon.

It promises to be a dramatic affair, but also one with plenty of missed chances if stats are anything to go by.

According to the Premier League, no top-flight side has missed more big chances than Manchester United this season.

The Red Devils have missed six big chances across their first two league games – a figure that is only matched by Liverpool.

Man United desperately need Rasmus Hojlund fit

United were dealt a huge blow in pre-season when both Rasmus Hojlund and Leny Yoro were ruled out with injuries.

Hojlund could make his return against Southampton on September 14 after it was predicted that he would spend six weeks on the sidelines.

The Danish striker was United’s top scorer in 2023-24 with 16 goals, and his absence has already been felt this season.

With the rest of United’s front line missing too many chances, Hojlund is needed back as soon as possible.

Manchester United could part ways with midfielders Jadon Sancho and Scott McTominay this summer as two of Serie A’s top clubs come knocking. Juventus have opened talks with United over the potential signing of Sancho, but an agreement between the two clubs is yet to be reached.

In a report by New York Times’ Athletic, the Old Trafford outfits are seeking around £40 million for Sancho, a price Juventus consider too high. The Italian outfits are looking to sign two wingers before the end of the summer transfer window. They were interested in Sancho back in January but Massimiliano Allegri, their then manager, decided against the move as he believed he wouldn’t fit into his system. Sancho then opted for a loan move back to Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund. They have since reignited their interest and seem to be the most likely destination for the England international.

Juve are reportedly exploring their options, with a loan move likely to be discussed in the coming days.

Scott McTominay, another United midfielder, has caught the attention of Napoli. New manager Antonio Conte’s side are reportedly seeking either a permanent deal or a loan with obligation to buy. Skysports’ Dharmesh Sheth reported that Napoli are offering around €25 million for the 27-year-old Scotland international, but this is way below what United want.

“Napoli in talks with Manchester United over the signing of midfielder Scott McTominay. Napoli are exploring a permanent deal and a loan with an obligation. The offer being proposed is understood to be around €25m, which falls below United’s valuation,” he wrote on his X account.

The Athletic also reports that Premier League side Bournemouth have opened talks with Chelsea over a possible loan deal for Spanish goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. The Stamford Bridge outfits are keen to offload the 29-year-old, who

spent last season away on loan at Real Madrid, making 20 appearances.
