I have forgiven him – Jadon Sancho and Erik ten Hag Resolve Differences Before Pre-Season

Jadon Sancho and Erik ten Hag have settled their differences before Manchester United’s pre-season training begins. Following a successful loan spell at Borussia Dortmund, Sancho is back in first-team training. With Greenwood’s departure and new signings, there is a chance for Sancho to have a long-term future at Old Trafford.

Last season, Sancho was out of favor and only played in the first three Premier League games before a dispute with ten Hag led to his demotion to youth team training. He was loaned to Borussia Dortmund in January, where he impressed by helping the team reach the Champions League final. Now, Sancho is back training with Manchester United’s first team, indicating the club’s intent to utilize his skills.

Sancho’s unexpected return to United’s training sessions at Carrington was surprising, especially since the club had been in talks with Dortmund earlier. His impressive performance during his loan, scoring three goals and providing three assists, prompted calls for his permanent return to Dortmund, but no deal was made.

Manchester United’s first-team resumed training without Sancho earlier this week, but he has since rejoined and is likely to feature in pre-season matches. According to Fabrizio Romano, Sancho and ten Hag had a positive meeting and agreed to move past their disagreement, allowing Sancho to be available for pre-season.

With Greenwood’s imminent move to Marseille, Sancho could be a long-term option for United’s right flank, alongside Antony and Amad Diallo. On the left, Rashford will compete with Garnacho, and with Joshua Zirkzee expected to join from Bologna, United could have a dynamic young attacking lineup next season.

Sancho has played 82 games for United, scoring 12 goals and assisting six. Meanwhile, United’s transfer targets for central defense include Jarrad Branthwaite, Matthijs de Ligt, and Leny Yoro, aiming to improve their defensive options after years of missteps in signing players.

A Bayern deal for Joao Palhinha could have a knock-on effect on United’s transfer business.

Bayern Munich are closing in on a deal to sign Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha for a fee of £42m plus add-ons.

The Portuguese international midfielder has completed his medical with Bayern and there are just a few minor technical details to iron out before his move to the Allianz Arena is completed.

The 29-year-old joined Fulham for around £17million in 2022 and has been a revelation for the Cottagers since his move from Sporting Lisbon.

He recently played a key role in Portugal’s run to the quarter-finals of EURO 2024, too, and will join Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise as one of new Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany’s first signings at the club.

It means Fulham will pocket a £25million profit and the money they receive from Bayern will help Marco Silva’s side fund a move for a midfield replacement.

And that replacement could come in the form of Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay, with Fulham and Everton among the clubs interested in the Scotland international this summer.

United don’t want to lose the 27-year-old, and turned down a bid from West Ham United for his services last summer. But with competition for places in midfield growing, McTominay is keen for first-team football.

His departure could bank United up to £40million in their transfer coffers and his departure would be banked as pure profit according to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules, given he is a United academy graduate.

United have had a huge bid accepted for Lille defender Leny Yoro, and are in the market to sign Matthijs De Ligt, Jarrad Branthwaite, Manuel Ugarte and Joshua Zirkzee, too.

In what could be a busy summer for United, any money generated from player trading will be used to help fund that spending as the INEOS Group look to re-establish the club at the top of the Premier League.
