Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim is nearing a total contractual agreement with Manchester United but won’t force his way out of his current club.

On Monday morning, United confirmed the sacking of Erik ten Hag after two-and-a-half years in the Old Trafford dugout.

After Sunday’s loss at the hands of West Ham, United chiefs deemed that enough was enough and decided to pull the trigger.

The Red Devils stated that Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge as interim head coach while a permanent successor is recruited.

Sporting’s Amorim has emerged as a leading candidate to succeed Ten Hag. A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United are working on a deal to pry him from Estádio José Alvalade.

It was divulged that a verbal agreement is in place between Amorim’s camp and the 20-time English champions. Indeed, it has been suggested that sporting director Dan Ashworth is keen to have the Portuguese tactician’s appointment announced before Sunday’s home clash against Chelsea.

Amidst all this, Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has given a slight update on the situation, indicating that nearly every contractual detail has been agreed upon but both clubs still need to find middle ground.

Plettenberg wrote on X, “Understand the most important contract details between Ruben Amorim and Manchester United have already been agreed upon.”

“Only a few details remain. A complete agreement is therefore not an obstacle.”

“Negotiations between the clubs are now underway.”

“Important: Amorim would move to Man United immediately, but he is not putting any internal pressure on Sporting Lisbon out of respect.”

“He will only make the move if all sides find a reasonable solution. Sporting especially need to find a suitable successor!”

Sporting currently boast a 100% record at the top of the Portuguese league this term, having won all nine games. They’ve scored an impressive 30 goals and conceded just twice.

It’s an almost similar case in the Champions League, where Amorim’s side remain unbeaten after winning two of their three opening fixtures.
