Jonny Evans delivers fantastic performance in 200th appearance for Man Utdby Sri Aswin24 September 2023

Manchester United defender Jonny Evans marked his 200th appearance for the club with a fantastic performance against Burnley away.

The 35-year-old centre-back was a surprise starter against the Clarets at Turf Moor following an unfortunate injury to Lisandro Martinez.

Some fans scrutinized the decision to let Evans leave when Raphael Varane returned to the team, but the Northern Irishman has proven his worth.

Evans scored a fantastic header to put United ahead, but the goal was unfortunately disallowed as Rasmus Hojlund interfered with play from an offside position.

Just before half-time, however, the veteran played a perfect long ball with his left foot to Bruno Fernandes, who scored with a stunning volley. Fernandes was named man of the match for his stunning winner, but the club captain was happy to present the award to Evans for his fantastic performance on the road.

In addition to his assist, Evans had 80 touches and completed 59 of his 65 passes with an accuracy of 91 percent. He won 100 percent of his air and ground duels in the game (5/5).

The former Leicester City player also made eight saves and won two fouls. It’s a perfect return to the starting XI for Evans, who responds brilliantly to his critics. After a hard-fought victory at Burnley, United returned to winning ways in the Premier League. They have now moved into the top half of the table with nine points, four points behind the Champions League places.

The club now have a double-header at home against Crystal Palace. They will host them on Tuesday evening in the third round of the Carabao Cup before the championship match begins on Saturday afternoon.
