Jurgen Klopp’s ‘powerful pitch’ lured Ryan Gravenberch to Liverpool despite late interest from Man United

Jurgen Klopp played a key role in Liverpool’s deal to sign Ryan Gravenberch ahead of Manchester United.

The Reds are close to completing a £34million deal and signing the box-to-box midfielder from Bayern Munich, ending a fine summer in the transfer market.

The 21-year-old left Ajax last summer for Bayern Munich. Premier League clubs have been following his progress with high hopes of seeing their own move for the Eredevisie’s youngest debutant.

Liverpool’s need for reinforcements in midfield was predictable, but not as much as seen after the loss of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Jurgen Klopp made it clear that Gravenberch was a prime target as he gave the midfielder a powerful performance and didn’t compromise when they lured him to the club on a long-term deal. Manchester United were also keen and arrived late to play, but Gravenberch was only interested in Liverpool.

The challenge for the Dutch international now is to realize his undisputed potential and become a key player for Klopp’s side in a newly formed, young and exciting Liverpool side.

For Gravenberch, the club’s interest has been there for a long time.

The Dutch star has been on Liverpool’s radar for many months and has been working on the deal since April this year – a time when the Reds were still considering leaving Jude Bellingham.
