Lisandro Martinez sends messages to Manchester United fans after win v Liverpool, time to get excited
Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez was more excited than most players after the team’s FA Cup quarter-final win.
Argentina international Lisandro Martinez watched Manchester United’s win against Liverpool from the director’s boxes at Old Trafford.
The centre-back is currently out with an injury sustained in early February, but he is closing in on a return to action.
Martinez had to settle for watching the quarter-final, and was thrilled to see the team come out on top in an enthralling 4-3 win.
Lisandro Martinez sent two messages to Manchester United fans on Instagram, the first being a short reel lapping up the atmosphere.
Picturing the wild celebrations in the stands, he wrote: “This is what it means.”
It can be a good perspective for players to experience moments like this from the stands, to see the direct effect their performances can have on supporters, and experience the highs in a different way.
Martinez then sent another message to his teammates, expressing his happiness as the Red Devils booked a place at Wembley, where the team will face Coventry City in the semi-finals.
Martinez wrote: “All together, team and fans! Heading for the semis!”
The defender’s words should generate some excitement, because he is going to be in the mix for the semi-final.
When Lisandro Martinez could be back
Lisandro Martinez might now be available for Manchester United’s semi-final against Coventry City, which will be held in mid-April.
Martinez is set to link up with the Argentina squad next week, and while he won’t play, it is a positive step as he looks to return from his MCL injury.
Last week, The Athletic reports that the trip to Brentford on March 30 has been lined up as a potential return date for Martinez.
United don’t need to rush him back. Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans have all been excellent, lately.
‘The Butcher’ is always nice to have back though. When fully fit, he is one of the first names on Erik ten Hag‘s team sheet, and he could yet be lining up at Wembley next month.
‘Absolutely brilliant’… Chris Sutton seriously impressed by Manchester United player vs Liverpool
Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United took on Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at Old Trafford in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup on Sunday.
Liverpool headed into the tie against Premier League rivals Manchester United as favourites. After all, the Merseyside club have the better team and are in better form.
However, it was United who won the quarter-final tie in extra time. They were not particularly great in normal time, but they kept on going and showed a lot of urgency in the second period of extra time.
Not many United players were particularly great against Liverpool. While Antony did not have a particularly good game, the winger, who could reportedly be sold at the end of the season, scored a brilliant goal for the Red Devils.
It was the Brazil international’s goal in the 87th minute that saw United force the tie into extra time. Antony got into the penalty area and, under pressure, was able to spin and shoot low past Liverpool and Republic of Ireland international goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, who is on the radar of Celtic.
Chris Sutton praises Manchester United winger Antony vs Liverpool
Former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton was impressed with Antony’s goal, as you can read below.
Sutton said on BBC 606 (5:19 pm, March 17, 2024): “I have got to say, Rob, the finish from Antony, absolutely brilliant for a guy who hasn’t turned up, they spent an absolute fortune on him, wonderful finish, swivel 12 yards out into the far corner.”
My View: Antony needs to build on his goal vs Liverpool
Antony did not start for Manchester United. Manager Erik ten Hag brought him on for Rasmus Hojlund in the 71st minute.
The winger made an impact by scoring a good goal in a major cup tie. I think that he now needs to build on it.
Antony is having a poor Premier League campaign. The 24-year-old has not scored or given an assist in 11 starts and 11 substitute appearances in the league.
The Brazilian needs to step up his game in the final weeks of the season.
