Luton are close to signing a defender from Man Utd which could end their transfer interest in Arsenal’s Rob Holding.

Luton Town are reportedly close to signing Teden Mengi from Manchester United, potentially ending their transfer interest in Arsenal’s Rob Holding.

Luton were promoted to the Premier League last season and, after losing their first two games, are looking to step up their efforts before the window closes.

The Hatters conceded seven goals in defeats to Brighton and Chelsea as Rob Edwards’ side look to climb up the table.

They want a new defender to improve and are ready to bring in United defender Mengi after agreeing a deal with the Red Devils.

The 21-year-old centre-back has made just two senior appearances for United, replacing BSC Young Boys in the Champions League and LASK in the Europa League.

Mengi has played more prominently for United’s Under-21 and Under-18 sides and has also been loaned twice to Birmingham City and Derby County in the league.

He is now set to swap Old Trafford for Kenilworth Road and it could affect Luton’s interest in signing Holding from Arsenal.

Arsenal are keen to sack the 27-year-old centre-back before the summer transfer window closes and Luton were among the squads linked to him. Holding faced widespread criticism last season when he replaced the injured William Saliba in Arsenal’s starting eleven as the Gunners’ Premier League title challenge fizzled out.

Despite rumors that Luton could be out of the running for Holding, Wolves and Crystal Palace are believed to be interested in English.
