Man Utd ‘very happy’ with Erik ten Hag and plans reward despite slow start

United spent around £190 million on new signings during the summer transfer window. Two of them were in midfield, with Mason Mount the first through the door for a transfer fee of up to £60m and Sofyan Amrabat the last for an initial loan fee of £8.5m pound sterling. Erik ten Hag is yet to see the new signings make the necessary improvements on the pitch. United lost three of their first six Premier League games, although they beat Burnley and Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup in their last two games to restore their confidence.

Ten Hag will understandably already be examining where he can improve further in future transfer markets. With Casemiro turning 32 in February and having received some criticism for his performances this season, midfield could once again be an area he is looking at.

Man Utd transfer news: Javi Guerra impressed in his first days with Valencia’s first team (Image: GETTY)

Spain’s Marca say United are keeping an eye on Valencia star Guerra. The young Spaniard only made his first professional team debut in April.

Valencia moved quickly to sign him to a new long-term contract in May and keep him at Mestalla until 2027. They added a release clause to the contract worth around £86m (€100m).

However, Marca claim that both United and Newcastle believe they can sign Guerra for significantly less than the clause amount. It would appear that interested clubs consider Valencia to be ‘at risk’ due to their financial need to sell players to balance their books.

It remains to be seen whether United will attempt to pry Guerra from Valencia in January or offer him a full season in La Liga. Guerra has started five of Valencia’s seven league matches this season.

Benni McCarthy blows Haaland away with his honest assessment of the Man City star

He showed he has an eye for goal in midfield, scoring three goals and providing one assist, including the 88th-minute winner against Sevilla on matchday one. In total, he scored four goals in his 17 senior games for Valencia.

Guerra is a Spain U21 international and has previously played for the Spain U19 team. United and Newcastle hope to bring in potential new signings for Champions League knockout football if they are at full capacity in January. Manchester United are interested in signing Bayern Munich striker Serge Gnabry in the January transfer window as Erik ten Hag looks to strengthen his attacking options, Nacional said via the Daily Mail.

The Spanish club claim the Red Devils could make a move for Gnabry this winter due to uncertainty over the futures of Antony and Jadon Sancho, who have missed the club’s latest matches.

Ten Hag will not allow Sancho to return to first-team training until he apologizes after attacking the United manager on social media. Sancho suggested that Ten Hag had lied about his performance in training and claimed he had been made a scapegoat at the club.

The 23-year-old decided to deactivate his Instagram account after being banned from the first team. The England international has played three league games this season and is yet to open his account or register an assist.

Antony, however, arrived in England from Brazil and agreed to meet Greater Manchester Police to answer questions about the serious allegations made against him by his ex-partner Gabriela Cavall.

It is not known whether he will be available for selection ahead of Man Utd’s next matches. The Brazil international has four league appearances with Ten Hag’s side who sit ninth in the Premier League with nine points.

Offensive reinforcement

Man Utd are now looking for attacking reinforcements and the Daily Mail quotes Nacional’s hard copy as claiming they are eyeing a bold move to sign Gnabry in January. The German has established himself in recent seasons as one of the best strikers in the Bundesliga. He left Arsenal in 2016 after five years at the Emirates Stadium, where he made 18 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal and providing two assists.

He was a regular in the Gunners’ U-21 team, where he scored twelve goals and provided eight assists in 38 matches. The Germany international first joined Werder Bremen in 2017 before FC Bayern Munich signed him twelve months later.

The versatile striker has since featured in 224 matches, scoring 82 goals and registering 51 assists in all competitions. In doing so, he helped Thomas Tuchel’s side win several titles, including the Bundesliga, DFB Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup.
