Man Utd keen to complete ‘quick’ deal for €1,000m striker who was identified as Sancho’s replacement in January
Manchester United have reportedly increased their interest in Juventus striker Federico Chiesa, who is also linked with Liverpool.
The 25-year-old made a strong impression for Italy at the 2021 European Championships, but his development was hampered by a serious knee injury.
Chiesa was out for around ten months before returning in November 2022 after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
The striker struggled after returning from injury last season, but has made a sensational start to the 2023/24 season. He has scored four goals in his first six Serie A games for Juventus this season. Chiesa was heavily linked with Liverpool during the summer transfer window as they attempted to find a replacement for Mo Salah, but they would face competition from Man Utd.
Man Utd are lacking options in wide areas, with Jadon Sancho and Antony currently unavailable for selection (for different reasons).
And Italian broadcaster Calciomercato (via Sport Witness) reports that Man Utd have chosen Chiesa to replace Sancho.
After a row with Erik ten Hag, Sancho reportedly ‘refused’ to ‘apologise’ and insiders told I News a return to Old Trafford was currently a ‘distant dream’.
“He’s a great player, that doesn’t go away, so he’ll have offers in January if we’re where we are now – because first-team football at United is a distant dream,” said one insider. Man Utd at INews. “But clubs need to find something that encourages them to bring it to their club. Talent alone will not allow him to join another top team.
“We know what it all looks like for him and the more United leave him out in the cold, the less attractive he becomes.”

Calciomercato reports that Man Utd want to agree a deal with Chiesa “as early as January” and Juventus are said to have valued him at no less than €60m.
Chiesa has a contract until 2025, but Juventus are reportedly keen to extend his contract until 2026 to fend off interest from Premier League clubs.
As for Sancho, Man Utd legend Roy Keane believes he would be quickly forgiven if he “showed some humility” and apologized to his teammates. “If you have any question marks about this player and he’s not training properly and he turns around and shows some humility and says maybe I did something wrong , you can move on very quickly,” Keane said.
“We’ve been in the changing rooms where players have come in and said: ‘Sorry boys, I made a mistake’, we forget that very quickly.
“Football locker rooms have a strange dynamic. If a player shows that they care and are human, it’s not a problem. “We’ll move on quickly.”

Man Utd face triple whammy as missing trio return to face Crystal Palace
Manchester United will assess Sergio Reguilon, Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay ahead of the Premier League second leg against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
Jadon Sancho ordered not to use first team facilities
Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag will face a triple injury absence in this weekend’s second leg against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
The club will assess the conditions of Sergio Reguilon and midfield duo Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay ahead of their Premier League clash with the Eagles. The trio were absent in Tuesday night’s 3-0 League Cup win against the same opponents.
Reguilon did not report to United’s Carrington training complex after the win at Burnley, where he had requested to play despite feeling unwell. It is standard procedure for United to send sick players home or ask them to stay away from their training ground to avoid the spread of illness within the team.
Eriksen and McTominay attended training on Monday and were due to face Roy Hodgson’s side before both also fell ill
Another player who could potentially feature this weekend is Lisandro Martinez. Martinez has missed the last two games with foot problems and continues to suffer from discomfort in his right foot after fracturing a metatarsal against Sevilla in April.
However, with the return of Raphael Varane in midweek, manager Ten Hag already has four central defenders to choose from – including Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire. And with United playing two more home games next week, against Galatasaray and Brentford, Martinez is unlikely to be put in danger, especially as the defensive line continues to be affected by injuries, with Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and Aaron Wan-Bissaka still present. the defensive crease is a long-term injury list.

Another player who may not be sidelined for much longer is Amad. It appears the 21-year-old is likely to return to full first-team training after next month’s international match.
