Man Utd midfielder Manuel Ugarte has spoken after his debut.
Manuel Ugarte marked his Manchester United debut with three points – followed by a classy message.
The now-former PSG man signed for the Old Trafford giants on deadline day. He cost an initial £42.3million. Ugarte, 23, put pen to paper too late to play against Liverpool before September’s international break. However, the less said about that showdown the better.
On a more positive note, United returned to domestic action with a 3-0 victory against Southampton on Saturday lunchtime. Matthijs de Ligt and Marcus Rashford put United in command with two goals in six first-half minutes, as Alejandro Garnacho then added some last-gasp gloss to the scoreline at St Mary’s.
It was a much-needed and morale-boosting win for Erik ten Hag’s side. United have now picked up six points from four matches in the Premier League this season and play Crystal Palace next up in that competition.
Ugarte, who was introduced for the final 17 minutes on Saturday lunchtime, could make his full debut then. He was summoned for Christian Eriksen against Southampton as Ten Hag made a surprise – but justified – decision.
Eriksen partnered Kobbie Mainoo and No.10 Bruno Fernandes in midfield, as United went without a natural holding player. However, it should only be a matter of time before Ugarte makes his way into their starting XI.
For now, though, the Uruguay international was pleased enough to just be involved. The 23-year-old took to social media platform Instagram after the final whistle on the south coast and shared a message with his followers.
In a post that featured two pictures, he said: “This journey has started. Thanks to all the fans.
“Let’s go Manchester United.” Ugarte added a salute emoji to his post, which has close to 200,000 likes already.

Manchester United will entertain Barnsley at Old Trafford this Tuesday night as they look to earn a victory at home in the EFL Cup. The Red Devils managed to secure an impressive 3-0 win away at Southampton recently which should keep them in good spirits ahead of this cup game in midweek.
Erik ten Hag will stick with his favoured 4-2-3-1 formation and is expected to make a whole host of changes for this clash. Ethan Wheatley could get a chance to lead the line for the Mancunian giants in the final third.

Altay Bayindir will operate in between the sticks for the Red Devils as he looks to keep a clean sheet at Old Trafford. Harry Maguire will function alongside Jonny Evans at the centre of the Man United backline as they try to keep the opposition at bay during the game.
Noussair Mazraoui will continue to feature as the right-back while Harry Amass hopes to catch the eye on the other flank as the left-back. Both of them will get the license to get forward and express themselves in the Barnsley half.

Midfield
Casemiro and Toby Collyer will anchor the midfield for the Mancunian club as they try to establish their dominance over the opposition at the centre of the park. The gifted trio of Alejandro Garnacho, Bruno Fernandes and Antony will play just ahead of them as part of ten Hag’s attack. All three of them need to combine well so that they can create enough chances to secure a convincing win at Old Trafford this Tuesday night.
Christian Eriksen, Amad Diallo and Kobbie Mainoo will be rested on the bench as they wait for their chance to make an impact in the second half if needed.
Attack
Ethan Wheatley will get a chance to spearhead Man United’s attack in the final third. He has to find a way to cause some problems for the Barnsley defenders.
Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee will be available for selection on the bench and might come on in the latter stages of the game if required.
