Manchester United have been tentatively linked with Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala
Manchester United already have £25million in the bag to put towards their spend next summer and that, perhaps, might come in handy for Jamal Musiala. The Bayern Munich forward seemingly has top European clubs on red alert with the German heavyweights and his representatives at a stand-off.
Emerging reports from The Express reckon Musiala has ‘rejected’ another contract offer from the Bundesliga outfit. It’s proposed Bayern might now have to cash-in on the Germany superstar.
A would-be transfer fee around £120million has been mooted. That would be a Premier League record and United’s neighbours Manchester City are said to be front-runners.
Arsenal, Liverpool, United and Real Madrid are also namedropped as potential suitors.
Musiala has dual nationality through his Nigerian-British father and played for England at age-group level right up to the Under-21s before choosing to represent Germany at senior level. He played for the host nation at Euro 2024 this summer and has totted-up 36 caps to date with six goals.
The former Southampton and Chelsea youngster has played 167 games for Bayern in all competitions. Musiala has 45 goals and 32 assists to show for his efforts with the German heavyweights.
One alarm bell for any team might be the staggering transfer fee suggested. United, too, would probably need to re-quality for the Champions League to have any chance of signing him.
However, if they do re-emerge at the top table in Europe this season, one deal already completed next summer is set to act as a welcome boost to their transfer budget. Jadon Sancho left Old Trafford on deadline day as he finally pursued a fresh start at Chelsea, and he has already made his mark for the Stamford Bridge side.
The deal, starting with an initial loan, will be made permanent for £25million next summer. The Sancho clause is an obligation rather than option, so Chelsea cannot back out and United have guaranteed future income.
That leaves United with just another £95million to find for Musiala’s proposed signature.
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has revealed why he dropped Casemiro and Alejandro Garnacho from the starting lineup for their Premier League clash against Southampton, according to Metro.
Ten Hag opted for a surprise lineup change, leaving out the duo who had been regular starters in recent weeks. Instead, he chose to start Fred and Marcus Rashford, who both played crucial roles in United’s 3-0 win over the Saints.
When asked about his decision, ten Hag explained that he wanted to freshen up his team and take advantage of Southampton’s weaknesses. “We wanted to change the dynamic and bring in some fresh energy,” he said. “Fred and Marcus have been training well and deserved their chance.”
Ten Hag also hinted that Casemiro’s recent workload may have contributed to his decision to leave him out. “Casemiro has played a lot of games, and we need to manage his minutes,” he added.
Garnacho, on the other hand, was likely dropped due to tactical reasons. Ten Hag may have wanted to start with a more experienced and physical presence
up front, which Rashford provided.
