Manchester United have already wrapped up a deal for Leny Yoro but another centre-back is wanted this summer.
Erik ten Hag was left short in defence last season after an injury crisis saw Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof all spend time on the sidelines last season.
With Varane leaving this summer as a free agent, Manchester United moved quickly to bolster their defence with the £52million signing of Leny Yoro.
It was a statement signing for United after they beat Real Madrid to the 18-year-old’s signature, but Ten Hag wants more defensive reinforcements this summer.
United have already bid for Jarrad Branthwaite but Everton’s stance on selling him this summer has not changed despite their recent takeover collapse.
The Red Devils have also made an offer for Matthijs de Ligt and are in talks with Bayern Munich over a deal – De Ligt is now unhappy with the German side for not lowering their asking price.

Man United ‘convinced’ they can sign Antonio Silva
With talks for Branthwaite and De Ligt stalling, United are eyeing up alternative options this summer.
According to Portuguese outlet O Jogo, Benfica centre-back Antonio Silva is back on United’s radar.

Silva has a release clause of 100million Euros (£84million) but the report states that United are “convinced” they can negotiate a more affordable exit for the 20-year-old.
HITC previously revealed United’s interest in signing Silva this summer after they regularly sent scouts to watch him in action in Portugal last season.
Silva has been handed high praise by former teammate Jan Vertonghen, who insisted Silva “will become a legend” in an interview with Record.
It is understood that United’s scouting department are huge admirers of Silva and that no other team has watched the defender in action more than the Red Devils.
