Manchester United confirms the departure of Interim coach Ruud van Nistelrooy and four other staff as Ruben Amorim takes over

New Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has addressed the uncertainty surrounding Ruud van Nistelrooy’s future at the club, stating that he will hold candid talks with the legendary striker, according to Sportskeeda. Van Nistelrooy, who took over as interim manager following Erik ten Hag’s departure, has expressed interest in managing the club permanently.

Amorim, who begins his tenure on Monday, November 11, acknowledged van Nistelrooy’s impressive stint as interim boss, where he led the team to three wins and a draw in four matches. However, the Portuguese coach’s arrival may impact van Nistelrooy’s role within the coaching staff.

“A legend of the club. He did a great job. I have to talk with him tomorrow. Then I will explain everything. I am very clear and I will tell you like it is. Let’s wait until tomorrow,” Amorim said, hinting at a forthcoming discussion.

Van Nistelrooy, who signed a two-year deal as an assistant coach under ten Hag, has been uncertain about his future since Amorim’s appointment. The Dutchman admitted to enjoying his interim stint and reiterated his long-term ambition to manage Manchester United.

“Yeah, of course. I thought this through well when I made the decision to come to United as an assistant manager or assistant coach… I had clear ambitions to manage. I made the decision to sign a two-year deal as an assistant and I’m still in that frame of mind to stay in that capacity,” van Nistelrooy said.

As Amorim settles into his new role, his conversation with van Nistelrooy will be pivotal in determining the Dutchman’s future. With Amorim expected to bring in his preferred coaching staff, van Nistelrooy’s position may be reevaluated.

Amorim’s diplomatic approach suggests a desire to handle the situation sensitively, acknowledging van Nistelrooy’s legendary status and contribution to the club. The outcome of their discussion will provide clarity on van Nistelrooy’s role and potentially shape Manchester United’s coaching dynamics.

Van Nistelrooy’s ambition to manage Manchester United permanently remains, and although Amorim’s arrival may have altered his immediate prospects, his desire to lead the team may be revisited in the future.

Manchester United has confirmed that Ruud van Nistelrooy will be leaving the club, following his brief stint as interim manager as reported by Daily Express.

Despite the success of his interim role, the club has opted for a change in direction, bringing in Ruben Amorim as the new manager.

The 39-year-old Amorim’s arrival signifies a new era, and his coaching staff, including Carlos Fernandes, Adelio Candido, Paulo Barreira, Emanuel Ferro, and Jorge Vital, were seen leaving Portugal on a private jet early Monday morning.

Their arrival signals a fresh start, leaving little room for the current staff. As a result, coaches Rene Hake, Pieter Morel, and Jelle ten Rouwelaar are also departing the club.

A statement released by Manchester United read: “Manchester United can confirm that Ruud van Nistelrooy has left the club.

Ruud rejoined in the summer and has taken charge of the team for the past four matches as interim head coach. Ruud is, and always will be, a Manchester United legend.

We are grateful for his contribution and the way in which he has approached his role throughout his time with the club. He will always be very welcome at Old Trafford.”

The club further confirmed, “Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar, and Pieter Morel have also departed, and we wish them all well for the future. We will confirm the full men’s first-team coaching composition in due course.”

Van Nistelrooy had been appointed by Erik ten Hag earlier this year as part of a larger coaching reshuffle. His return was met with optimism, particularly after he had made his mark as a manager at PSV Eindhoven.

During his time there, Van Nistelrooy lifted the 2023 KNVB Cup but decided to leave the club, citing insufficient support.
