Erik ten Hag looking to add more firepower to his attack in the winter window

Manchester United are said to be preparing a shock January transfer swoop for a former Arsenal forward.

Erik ten Hag is already looking at bolstering his options in attack ahead of the winter window and according to reports has identified a familiar face as one of his top targets.

United are currently short in firepower, with Antony taking a leave of absence following the allegations of domestic abuse against him in Brazil while Jadon Sancho remains in exile after his standoff with the Dutch boss.

It could see the Red Devils enter the transfer market to sign German international Serge Gnabry from Bayern Munich.

Spanish publication Nacional are reporting that United could make a move for the former Gunners forward in the new year.

Gnabry came through Arsenal’s youth ranks, but failed to make an impression in north London making just eighteen appearances for the Gunners and a further three games in a forgettable loan spell with West Brom.

However, a move back to Germany with Werder Bremen in 2016 became the making of the German and after an impressive season with Bremen moved to Bayern Munich a year later – and forced his way into Germany’s national team.

At Munich, Gnabry has established himself as a key member of the German giants side, making 223 appearances for the club and scoring 82 goals.

While at international level the 28-year-old has 22 goals in just 42 caps for Germany and played for his country at Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup.

Gnabry, who scored against Man United in Bayern’s 4-3 Champions League win last week, is contracted until 2026 and the Premier League side could face competition from Real Madrid for his signature.

Man United return to action on Tuesday night when they face Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup, before hosting the Eagles once again on Saturday in league action.
