Manchester United Transfer News: Rashford gets approval for a swap deal with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen
Manchester United has officially secured their first signing under Ruben Amorim, with 17-year-old Diego Leon completing his medical and signing a contract in Manchester on Monday.
However, the young talent will only join the club in the summer, leaving the focus on current transfer market activities.
Due to Financial Fair Play (FFP) restrictions, United is under pressure to balance their books, meaning significant incoming transfers can only happen if current players are sold. This has intensified speculation about potential departures.
Barcelona is reportedly interested in Marcus Rashford, with coach Hansi Flick supporting the move. According to Sport, initial talks have taken place, and Barcelona is optimistic following President Joan Laporta’s announcement that the club is back to their 1:1 spending rule. Flick sees Rashford as a valuable attacking reinforcement, even with Raphinha’s excellent form this season.
Meanwhile, United scouts are reportedly eyeing RB Salzburg winger Nene Dorgeles as a potential Rashford replacement. Fabrizio Romano has described Dorgeles as “underrated,” but it remains uncertain if United will move for him this month or wait until the summer.
Young Argentine star Alejandro Garnacho could also be on the way out. Financial constraints mean the club is no longer considering him untouchable. Napoli, in need of a replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is moving to PSG, has identified Garnacho as a priority target. Sky Italia reports United would consider selling Garnacho for €60 million to €70m. This cash influx could alleviate United’s financial worries and potentially fund future signings.
Another key target for United is Napoli striker Victor Osimhen. Journalist Ben Jacobs has confirmed the club dreams of signing the Nigerian forward, especially with his valuation dropping to €75 million. However, Osimhen insists his next move must be a permanent one, and his €250,000 weekly wage may pose challenges for United’s budget.
On the defensive front, United is facing hurdles in strengthening their left-back options. Bournemouth has stated that Milos Kerkez is unavailable this month, while Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu has other suitors. Meanwhile, high-profile targets like Alphonso Davies and Theo Hernandez are nearing contract extensions with their respective clubs, Bayern Munich and AC Milan.
In summary, while United has bolstered their future with Diego Leon, immediate challenges remain in securing high-profile targets amid financial constraints.
