Manchester United unveils seventh signing of the season that is worth £50.5 million

Manchester United have successfully secured the transfer of Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain in a deal potentially valued at £50.5 million, according to Skysports.

The Premier League club has initially agreed to pay £42 million, with the total amount possibly rising to £50.7 million (€60 million) depending on performance-based bonuses.

Throughout the transfer window, Ugarte remained Manchester United’s top target for midfield reinforcement.

The club are reportedly satisfied with the terms of the agreement.

However, Ugarte will not be eligible to play in Manchester United’s upcoming fixture against Liverpool on Super Sunday.

Negotiations with PSG were initially challenging, as the French giants sought to recoup the £51.1 million (€60 million) they paid Sporting Lisbon last summer for the Uruguayan midfielder.

However, both clubs eventually found common ground, driven by a mutual desire to finalize the transfer.

Sky Sports News reported that Ugarte had been determined to join Manchester United throughout the summer, and personal terms were swiftly agreed upon.

There were discussions about both a permanent transfer and a potential loan deal with an obligation to buy, but the permanent move ultimately prevailed.

One of the critical factors that allowed United to complete the deal was the need to free up space in Erik ten Hag’s squad.

This was achieved through the sales of Facundo Pellistri to Panathinaikos and Hannibal Mejbri to Burnley. These exits provided the necessary room to accommodate Ugarte’s arrival.

Last season, Ugarte made a significant impact in Ligue 1, leading the French top flight in tackles with 98, despite starting only 21 matches during the 2023/24 campaign.

The summer transfer window has shut, so what does the full list of Man Utd’s business from this summer look like?

It’s been a busy window for United.

Manchester United’s business in the 2024 summer transfer window is now complete.

United completed the signing of Manuel Ugarte on deadline day for €50million (£42.3m), with a further €10m (£8.5m) in add-ons and the midfielder was the last incoming of the summer.

Ugarte, who has signed a five-year contract, with the option of another year, should be an excellent addition for United and the club feel they have significantly strengthened their squad.

United have made five signings for the first team this summer, bringing in Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui and Ugarte, and the arrival of 18-year-old Sekou Kone, who will initially join up with the academy, was also confirmed on deadline day.

Those five signings have cost €264.5million (£220.4m) without factoring in the add-ons, which means Ten Hag has received heavy financial backing over three summers.
