Manchester United’s summer transfer window is shaping up nicely with two fresh faces joining the ranks for the forthcoming season.

First to arrive was Dutch and Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee, brought in to challenge Rasmus Hojlund in the attacking department. Following closely was Lille’s central defender Leny Yoro, a signing that has been hailed as a masterstroke, especially given Real Madrid’s and Liverpool’s interest in him earlier this summer.

The next area of focus for bolstering the squad is expected to be the midfield. The general consensus is that Casemiro may not be a regular starter for United in the upcoming season, but his potential replacement remains a mystery.

Joao Neves could be the next to arrive in Manchester. In a chat with Portuguese publication A Bola, Benfica’s president Rui Costa confirmed that an offer has been made for its defensive midfielder Neves, although he chose to keep the specifics under wraps.

“I never said that Joao Neves would only leave for his release clause and therefore, those claims are false,” he began. “What I can say in relation to Joao Neves is that there is an offer on the table. That has been in the news in the last days but I’m not going to say where this proposal stands. There is a proposal on the table which is being evaluated and is being discussed. But at this moment, Neves remains a Benfica player.”

In other news, transfer guru Florian Plettenberg suggests that United is open to offers as low as £10 million ($12.9 million) for Aaron Wan-Bissaka. This comes as the Reds have their sights set on Bayern Munich full-back Noussair Mazraoui as a potential replacement.

However, United is likely to face competition from West Ham for Mazraoui’s signature. If the Red Devils manage to outbid the Hammers, the latter team may turn its attention to Wan-Bissaka instead.

Liverpool.com says: United must find a long-term replacement for Casemiro after his under-par performances last season. Joao Neves is certainly young enough to grow into a world-class midfielder, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him join United this summer.
