Michael Owen demands that former England boss be replace with Erik ten Hag

After a horrifying but expected defeat at Crystal Palace, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was forced to field further inquiries about his professional future. This was undoubtedly the simplest of United’s remaining four league games, which is concerning. In addition, there’s still the possibility of the FA Cup final.Does Erik ten Hag provide Manchester United the best chance to win at Wembley and preserve the season?Former Manchester United striker Michael Owen supports the idea of an interim manager.

Michael Owen thinks Steve McClaren could step up

Michael Owen and Paul Scholes spoke to Premier League Productions following Manchester United’s 4-0 loss at Crystal Palace.

Owen made clear he feels a short-term change is necessary, commenting: “They are going to get smashed out the ball park playing like that. City are going to embarrass them at Wembley in front of millions of people.”

Accepting that options are extremely limited to bring in a coach at short notice, Owen believes one of Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff, Steve McClaren, could step up.

He does not believe McClaren is part of the problem, commenting that he believes the former England and Newcastle manager’s influence is being sidelined.

Owen said: “We’ve played under Steve McClaren. There’s no way his fingerprints are anywhere near that team. He is a brilliant coach and that team is not being coached at all. No way.

“There is no way on earth he has got anything to do with that team. It’s impossible. That team is absolutely clueless, right the way through it.

“Steve McClaren is a top operator and I can only think other people are coaching the first team and he’s a bystander.”

Asked if he would take McClaren replacing Ten Hag now, for the rest of the season, Owen responded: “For four games, yeah, anything.

“Something has got to change now. We know its got to change in the summer, there are too many big games, there’s European football next year, there’s a trophy at the end of the year [to play for].

Scholes backed up McClaren praise

Steve McClaren worked as an assistant coach at Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson during the Treble season.

Paul Scholes responded to Owen’s comments with agreement: “He’s not touching that team, the manager [Ten Hag] is not letting him touch that team.

“Everyone thinks we were a great team that attacked everybody and beat people, sometimes we played against better teams, and Steve McClaren put sessions on to make sure you stopped other teams, getting your distances right, getting your angles right, especially in midfield.”

He added with the highest praise of all: “He’s the best coach I ever had.”

Scholes also commented that he believes ‘the fight has gone out’ in this Manchester United team, expressing his concern for the remaining games.

Manchester United were always going to have a tough time against Crystal Palace. The team has been dealing with a lot of injuries lately with Harry Maguire being the only available centre-back for over a month now.

Ten Hag was gonna base the defence around the 31-year-old again, however, Maguire is now set to miss three weeks of football after picking up an injury in training. Now, the Dutchman has no center-backs at all.

It must be difficult having quality players like Raphael Varane, Tyrell Malacia, and Lisandro Martinez and not being able to play them when it matters most. Well, there’s nothing that can be done about the injuries so, Erik ten Hag will be leaning on an Academy defender.

Man United defender Harry Maguire has picked up a muscle injury in training.

As reported by Manchester Evening News, Toby Collyer from the Manchester United academy has been called up ahead of the game against Crystal Palace. This would be the first senior appearance for the 20-year-old midfielder.

While Collyer usually plays as a DM, Erik ten Hag will most likely be playing him as a centre-back. United are in desperate need of some fresh legs in the back and the 20-year-old could provide just that.

However, Collyer will most likely not be starting for United since Jonny Evans seems to be back in action. The Dutchman will most likely deploy Evans and Casemiro at CB to begin the game tonight.

Toby Collyer is now one stop closer to realising his dream and making his debut for Manchester United.

Foden and partner Rebecca, 22, threw a blue-coloured bash, but are yet to reveal the gender of the tot.

Giant light up letters saying “BABY FODEN” sat at one end of the club room, with a blue and white balloon wall climbing up behind it.

The party included a blue chocolate fountain, a blue and white cake, and other blue and white cakes and sweets.

A food table also featured donuts and cupcakes with blue icing and teddy bear cookies.

A cart with “Baby Foden” written on it held jars of different kinds of sweets.

Foden’s eldest son Ronnie, four, was pictured on a swing in front of a blue and white flower wall.

Father and son both wore black and blue Amiri t-shirts, while Rebecca looked glam in a blue dress.

A sweet family snap saw Foden and Rebecca holding Ronnie and daughter True, aged one.

The party was held at Stockport County Football Club and thrown by GOPR and Events who celebrated on Instagram.

In a post the company said: “A huge thank you to Becca @officialronniefoden_ for trusting us with this special occasion. Such an amazing day we were so excited to be a party of.”

Replying to the post, Foden said: “Beautiful work as always, thank you.”

The pair were both raised in Stockport and reportedly met at a party.

The blue theme could mean the announcement of a baby boy, but Manchester City’s colours are also blue and white.

Foden became a dad for the first time at the age 18, when he and Rebecca welcomed son Ronnie into the world.

Then in 2021 Foden announced he was becoming a father for a second time with Rebecca, aged 20.

Speaking of the magical moment to Man City’s website, he said: “I was there for the birth.

“I walked out of the room, gave it a little tear and then went back in like nothing happened.

“I’m not one for crying in front of people. I like to be on my own, but I was there in the room, watched it happen and it was a special moment.”

The City ace has been on the club’s books since four years old.

Foden has been in incredible form this season, scoring 22 goals in all competitions.

And this summer England will be desperate for him to continue that form into the Euros.

The Three Lions kicks-off their campaign against Serbia on June 16 before group stage ties against Denmark and Slovenia.

And Foden’s sparkling season has left him in pole position for a starting spot.
