My dreams for the club has changed since the new era – Marcus Rashford

Manchester United are looking for a bounce-back season this time after a forgettable year ended with the FA Cup trophy last season.

Many players will have redemption on their minds, but perhaps no other player fell harder from the first season under Erik ten Hag than Marcus Rashford.

After breaking the 30-goal barrier for United in 2022/23, he looked a shadow of himself in 2023/24, even finding himself dropped at times despite being fit.

He has started this pre-season in encouraging form and his assist for Rasmus Hojlund’s goal vs Arsenal was a just reward for a renewed attacking enterprise.

It will soon be a decade for Rashford in United’s senior team and the forward has now revealed how that has changed him.

Marcus Rashford- Your dreams change

Rashford had one of the most memorable debuts in United’s history when he scored a brace on his Europa League debut after being parachuted into the team just before kickoff due to various injuries.

He followed it up with another goalscoring display vs Arsenal on his league debut and the world was at his feet.

That young and carefree Rashford feels like a lifetime away now that he is one of the most senior and experienced members of the squad, with 402 appearances and 131 goals.

Speaking to MUTV ahead of the game against Real Betis, he spoke about how his dream at United has changed with time as goals kept getting ticked off on his “to-do” list.

He said: “I think as you get older, your dreams change as well. So, you know, in the beginning, it was just about playing for Man United. And when you get there, it’s about winning.

“So I still have, you know, dreams of winning the big trophies, the Premier League and Champions League with Man United. So, you know, hopefully, we can get that done.”

A monumental season coming

Rashford’s whole career has been a rollercoaster, as close to being in a literal sense as possible. He follows up remarkable campaigns with complete duds, always leading to frustration for fans.

The talent is clearly there so last season was particularly jarring, as it was hoped he would build on a world-class previous year.

It was the return of a finally fit Rashford but what happened instead was constant complaints over his work rate, his lack of finishing skills, and some off-the-field issues.

Now with Ineos at the helm of the club and a refreshed coaching staff renewing the vibe at the club, the hope will be that Rashford can finally find some semblance of consistency.

With a young core around him, he needs to step up and be the leader while carrying his own performances forward.

He himself has a huge role to play if United are to realise the changed dream he has at Old Trafford.
