OFFICIAL: Manchester City Complete Free Signing of Ilkay Gündoğan from Barcelona
Manchester City have officially announced the return of Ilkay Gündoğan, who has rejoined the club on a free transfer from Barcelona. The 33-year-old midfielder, who previously left City in the summer of 2023, is thrilled to be back at what he describes as “the best club in the world.”

Gündoğan’s initial stint at City was marked by remarkable success. Over seven seasons, he helped secure 14 major trophies, including a memorable Treble in the 2022-2023 season. His departure to Barcelona, following that historic achievement, saw him spend a year in La Liga, where he contributed to Barcelona’s campaign but faced challenges due to the club’s financial constraints and squad depth.

Reflecting on his return, Gündoğan expressed deep satisfaction. “I’m incredibly happy to be back,” he stated. “Seeing my teammates and the staff again after a year away makes me appreciate this place even more. I’ve realized just how amazing my time here was and how big the club is.”
