Joao Neves transfer talks ‘advance’ as £100m Benfica star makes Man United decision

Manchester United and Manchester City have been dealt a blow in their pursuit for Joao Neves, according to reports in Portugal.

United have been long-term admirers of the 19-year-old and were tipped to sign him as a successor to Casemiro, whose future is uncertain at Old Trafford. The Reds have already reportedly had two approaches rebuffed by Benfica, an opening bid of £51million and a second bid worth £59m earlier this month.

Man United tipped to target 10 players including Euro 2024 star after Leny Yoro transfer

Manchester United are poised to make Leny Yoro their second signing so far this summer – after Joshua Zirkzee – but the bookmakers are already starting to speculate on who might be next. A deal worth up to £58.7million with add-ons has been agreed for the highly-rated French defender.

An overhaul at centre-back is the main priority for United this summer. Matthijs de Ligt and Everton starlet Jarrad Branthwaite are also in the crosshairs for INEOS – with De Ligt having verbally agreed personal terms and the club seeing two bids rejected by The Toffees for Branthwaite.

United urged to sign Guehi

Speaking to Online Poker, Teddy Sheringham said: “After the way Marc Guehi played for England during the Euros, I’d quite happily see Manchester United go for him. I think he could be a star for the club over the next few years.

“He’s already got a lot of leadership qualities at a young age through his captaincy of Crystal Palace and he just seems assured in everything he does. That’s what United need at the back – leadership and composure.”

Sheringham added: “Guehi was probably one of the standout performers for an England team that got to the final and one of the players that avoided criticism throughout, so he’s shown he can do it on the big stage, and there’s no bigger stage in English football than Manchester United…”

Federico Chiesa links

Italian journalist Nicolo Ceccarini has predicted that Federico Chiesa could end up at Manchester United at the end of the transfer window.

The winger is available to leave Juventus this summer with several clubs linked with an interest. But speaking to CalcioNapoli24, the journalist has mentioned United as a possible destination.

“Chiesa? Certsinly esteemed by [Antonio] Conte, but if there is an Italian team really interested it was Roma. But if he doesn’t stay at Juventus I would see him more abroad, maybe at Manchester United.”

Erik ten Hag is doing what he said he would do after Christopher Vivell Man United transfer meeting

Erik ten Hag dined with Christopher Vivell at his favourite Hale haunt, La Famiglia, on Wednesday evening.

Vivell’s addition to the Manchester United structure has not even been confirmed by the club and was instead leaked by a staff member to an unofficial spokesperson. Vivell, 36, is only a short-term appointment. Ten Hag, whose wife returned to the Netherlands earlier this month, has dined with Vivell and new coaches Ruud van Nistelrooy and Rene Hake.

United to ‘continue pushing’ for Ugarte

Once United have wrapped up the signing of Lille defender Leny Yoro, they will switch their focus to Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte, according to German reporter Florian Plettenberg.

He has reported that United are going to ‘continue pushing’ to sign the Uruguay international, who has been closely linked with a move to M16 in recent weeks.

He adds that the 23-year-old is ‘keen’ to make the switch to Old Trafford.

United defender attracting transfer interest

United youngster Will Fish is attracting interest from Championship clubs in this summer transfer window.

Fish, 21, spent last season on loan with Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership and it’s understood United insiders considered his temporary spell as one of the most successful loans they had arranged.

The young centre-back made 45 appearances for Hibs and started almost every game during the campaign, gaining important senior experience at the heart of their defence.

Fish started regularly in a challenging senior environment and there is now a decision to be made on his future. The Manchester Evening News understands there are Championship clubs interested in signing him on loan and on permanent deals this summer.

However, it’s understood no decision has been communicated on Fish’s future and he could travel with the squad to the United States for this summer’s pre-season friendlies.

Tottenham consider McTominay as an ‘option’ to strengthen their midfield

According to a report by The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are considering United ace Scott McTominay as an ‘option’ to strengthen their midfield pool this summer.

McTominay has entered the final year of his current contract at Old Trafford and is being heavily linked with an exit. United need to raise funds through player sales this summer and McTominay is considered as a sellable asset.

The Scot has been the subject of interest from both Fulham, who have seen a bid turned down, and Turkish side Galatasaray.

Now Spurs have been credited with interest in the midfielder. It is claimed that head coach Ange Postecoglou is an ‘admirer’ of the 27-year-old.

OPINION: United must avoid giving Ten Hag a transfer he wants for a second time

“Adrien Rabiot signed a one-year contract extension with Juventus last summer, but that deal expired at the end of last month and the player has turned down the Italian’s fresh proposal. Although Juventus are said to have offered Rabiot a proposal worth €7million net per season, he’s expected to sign for a new club and United rekindling their interest wouldn’t be a shock. Erik ten Hag is known to be an admirer of Rabiot and United need midfield reinforcements this summer. He has become available on a free transfer, but there would no doubt be a hefty signing-on fee attached and is likely to demand a salary of around £120,000 per week. Rabiot is 29-years-old, he’s an experienced French international and Ten Hag may want him, but he wouldn’t solve the midfield problem that United are currently contending with.”

United confirm Hartis exit

United have announced the exit of goalkeeping coach Richard Hartis.

Hartis spent more than two decades at Old Trafford and has been replaced by Jelle ten Rouwelaar, who joined the club earlier this week.

Issuing a club statement, United said:

“Manchester United can confirm that Richard Hartis has left the club after five years as senior first-team goalkeeping coach. We would like to sincerely thank Richard for his significant contribution over two spells with the club, working with a succession of first-team goalkeepers and developing numerous Academy goalkeepers, several of whom reached the top level. Richard was integral in our Emirates FA Cup and Carabao Cup successes in the past two years, and, in his prior spell from 2001 to 2010, he was head goalkeeping coach in our Academy and first-team goalkeeping coach in the 2007/08 season, when we won the Premier League and UEFA Champions League. Richard leaves with our warmest best wishes for the next phase of his career.”

What Rabiot has said about his future amid United speculation

Adrien Rabiot has already admitted he would like to experience playing in the Premier League amid reports claiming he could be set to hold talks with United.

Rabiot is currently a free agent after leaving Juventus and is being linked with a plethora of clubs, both in England and elsewhere. The France international spent time in England as a youngster, having a few months in Manchester City’s academy.

Having played in both France and Italy at senior level, a move to England could tempt the 29-year-old.

United put De Ligt deal ‘on hold’

According to a report by GiveMeSport, United put their pursuit of Bayern Munich centre-back Matthijs de Ligt ‘on hold’ to focus on Leny Yoro.

United are close to wrapping up the signing of the Lille defender after he underwent a medical at Old Trafford yesterday (on Wednesday).

United had earlier made progress with a deal for De Ligt, agreeing personal terms with the Netherlands international. However, a move for him was reportedly paused due to wanting to focus on Yoro.

United give Maguire fitness update

United have hinted that Harry Maguire could feature in Saturday’s pre-season friendly against Rangers at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh.

Maguire, like several other senior players, played no part in Monday’s 1-0 defeat to Rosenborg in Norway. He missed the end of last season through injury and missed the European Championship as a result.

Issuing an update on the squad on their club website, United have said Maguire has ‘stepped up his return to fitness’.
