Rasmus Hojlund scored twice but Man United still lost the game 3-2

Rasmus Hojlund thinks Manchester United need to stop conceding so quickly after they’ve scored in matches this season.

United took the lead against Galatasaray twice in their second Champions League group clash on Tuesday night, but they conceded shortly after scoring on both occasions and that ultimately led to a 3-2 defeat at Old Trafford.

Although Galatasaray have struggled on English soil in European competition, they stunned Erik ten Hag’s side with a late victory and United are now facing an uphill battle to qualify from their Champions League group.

Hojlund scored two goals on the night but it wasn’t enough to help his teammates avoid a shock defeat. He spoke after the game In an interview with MUTV and admitted he had mixed emotions after the result.

He also stated United must stop conceding quickly after scoring themselves, something which Christian Eriksen highlighted when asked about the team’s problems in an earlier post-match interview.

“It’s a little bit difficult,” he said. “I feel happy and not happy at the same time, Of course, it’s not about the individual performance, it’s about getting the three points and at the moment we’re not good enough.

“We need to remember we can’t concede goals right after we score. We’ve had a few games now where that’s happened. We need to go back, analyse that tomorrow and talk about it in the group.

“It’s a tough period, but we need to stick together, that’s the only way we’ll get out of it. We need to get some points now if we want to play Champions League after the group stage.

“I’m looking forward to playing against them [Copenhagen] because it’s my former club and my brothers are playing there. I have a big heart for Copenhagen, but I play for Manchester United and we need to get some points.”

Midfield enforcer Casemiro will miss Manchester United’s UEFA Champions League clash with FC Copenhagen later this month after being sent off during Tuesday night’s 3-2 defeat to Galatasaray at Old Trafford.

The Brazilian, who is United’s leading goalscorer so far this season with four goals to his name, was sent off with 77 minutes on the clock after fouling Dries Mertens inside the penalty area. The Belgian pounced on a loose pass from United goalkeeper Andre Onana and had his legs swiped by Casemiro.

It was the midfielder’s second booking of the game, having been booked just over 10 minutes before half-time. Mauro Icardi stepped up to take the resulting penalty but dragged his effort wide.

The Argentine, however, was not fazed by that miss, putting Galatasaray 3-2 up just a few minutes later, delicately lifting the ball over Onana. They had trailed 2-1 just over 10 minutes earlier following Rasmus Hojlund’s second goal of the game.

As for Casemiro, he will now be forced to serve a one-game European ban, meaning he will miss the clash with Copenhagen at Old Trafford on October 24. The Brazilian has now been sent off three times since joining United just over a year ago.

He was sent off ’gainst Southampton and Crystal Palace last season. He also served a one-game ban against Arsenal back in January after picking up five yellow cards.

Though United have another two Premier League fixtures to navigate their way through before they switch their focus back to Champions League matters, meaning injuries and other circumstances could dictate Erik ten Hag’s thinking for the visit of the Danish club, Sofyan Amrabat could get his chance to move into the defensive-midfield role. He started at left-back once again against Galatasaray.
