Roy Keane was left looking away as Manchester United gave Manchester City ‘s players a guard of honour following their loss in the Community Shield.
The Red Devils were edged out on penalties by their neighbours after the two sides both scored late in Saturday’s match, which finished 1-1 after 90 minutes. Jadon Sancho and Jonny Evans failed to convert spot-kicks in the subsequent penalty shootout as City won 7-6.
As City went up into the Wembley stands to collect their medals, United players formed a guard of honour and applauded their opponents as they went past.
The gesture baffled talkSPORT commentators Adrian Durham and Darren Bent – and the duo went on to suggest that the act had left Keane angry, with the former Manchester United man in attendance for ITV.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Durham said: “I’ve just been told it’s a nice touch that the United players are making a tunnel for the City players as they head towards the steps to pick up the Community Shield and their medals.

“I can’t imagine Roy Keane thinking something like that is a nice touch. Could you imagine him being part of a tunnel, applauding the City players?”
Bent replied: “When I’m looking at Roy down there and I’m surprised he’s not kicked the desk over, the ITV desk over because he’s there watching.”
Durham, evidently keeping a close eye on the Irishman, added: “He’s got his arms in his pocket and he’s not even looking.”

United thought they had snatched victory at Wembley when substitute Alejandro Garnacho broke the deadlock in the 82nd minute, only for Bernado Silva to hit back for City just seven minutes later.
Keane is optimistic ahead of the new Premier League season, though, following United’s work in the transfer market. And the former Red Devils captain feels they can have a strong campaign – if they can keep their top players fit.
Speaking on ITV, he said: “They key for United is keeping the better players fit. The United squad is pretty strong, if they keep all their players fit – I would be pretty upbeat for the start of the season.
“I still think the manager would have wanted to see a bit more steel to see the game out. You would surely expect United to be challenging for the top four if players keep fit.”
