Scott McTominay’s weekly salary at Napoli ‘leaked’ and Man Utd fans won’t believe how much he earns

The former Manchester United midfielder has earned Diego Maradona comparisons for his impact on Napoli.

Scott McTominay’s weekly salary at Napoli has been ‘leaked’ – and the amount will surely surprise some Manchester United fans.

McTominay ended a 22-year association with United last summer when he signed for Napoli for a reported fee of £25.7 million.

The Scot joined a side that had finished 10th in the previous Serie A season, having endured a nightmare defence of the title they won in 2022/23.

But the club appointed Antonio Conte as manager and, with the Italian helped by high-profile signings such as McTominay, Romelu Lukaku and David Neres, currently sit second in the table.

McTominay quickly became a popular figure among local Italian media, and has netted eight Serie A goals this season.

Two of those came in Monday’s 3-0 win over Empoli, a performance for which the Scot earned the Player of the Match award.

McTominay is one of Napoli’s highest earners – but the exact amount he earns is notable compared to Premier League stars.

As per Capology, the Scot earns a yearly salary of €5.56 million (£4.75 million), or around €107,000 (£91,500) per week.

If accurate, the figure would put him below 15 Manchester United stars in terms of yearly earnings (via Spotrac).

He earns slightly more than Diogo Dalot and Rasmus Hojlund (£4.4 million per year), while Alejandro Garnacho (£2.7 million) and Kobbie Mainoo (£1.04 million) being the only first team regulars at Old Trafford who earn less than McTominay’s reported wage.

The Scot earns nearly four times less than the top earner at United, Brazil midfielder Casemiro (£18.2 million).

But his United salary was, in fact, reportedly even lower than what he is now.

The Daily Star claimed in March 2024 that United were considering whether to hand the midfielder a new contract which would double his existing wage of £60,000.

Of course, the contract was never agreed and the Scot was allowed to move to Italy, where he will hope to add a Scudetto to his trophy cabinet at the end of this season.

Manchester United are reportedly willing to agree a reduced price to sell Alejandro Garnacho in the summer transfer window despite his goal against Newcastle United on Sunday.

In the January transfer window, Napoli and Chelsea were among the clubs credited with an interest in Garnacho. The winger was seen as a priority for Antonio Conte in particular and MEN Sport understands a bid in the region of £40m was rejected by the Reds in the January window.

Since then, Garnacho has been focused on his time at United but his performances have come under an increasing amount of scrutiny. Sunday’s equaliser against Newcastle United was only the Argentine’s second in the Premier League since the turn of the year.

Now, according to a report from Tutto Mercato, the Reds have re-evaluated their valuation of Garnacho and have decided to lower their asking price. It is claimed that a €45m (£34.2m) bid would now be accepted by the Reds in comparison to the €60m (£45.65m) valuation that was in place in January.

It is also claimed that Conte remains interested in Garnacho and would be keen to bring the forward on board. The Manchester Evening News previously reported that as many as ten players are expected to leave in the summer as Ineos and Ruben Amorim eye a full rebuild of the squad.

Last week, Rio Ferdinand said on his podcast that he would be open to selling Garnacho if it meant that their out-of-favour centre-forward Victor Osimhen came to Old Trafford. “If I am Man United, Victor Osimhen comes to Man United next year,” he explained. “I am making it happen and the caveat to that is that if I am advising Garnacho, I am telling him to go to Napoli.

‌”I would want him to play left wing at Napoli and for Osimhen to come the other way. Because Garnacho, if we didn’t have Amorim as the manager and we had a manager who plays with wingers, I am not selling Garnacho. I like him, I love him.

“He may not be in his best form now but I love Garnacho – his nerve, his balls – and I love that he has a confidence and an arrogance that he wants to be the best. But the system that the manager wants to play does not suit him.

“If I am him or an advisor in his team, I am saying: ‘Guys, thank you but I want to go now,’ I would say that if I am him. If I am an advisor I want him to be in the best environment for him.

“If I am him, I get out of there because I think this system is only going to hold him back.” Osimhen joined Galatasaray on loan last summer after a permanent move from the Italian club fell through on Deadline Day.

The Nigerian striker is now thought to be keen on sorting his future early to avoid a repeat of what happened last year.
