Manchester United will have to pay more than £15million to sack under-pressure manager Erik ten Hag.
The Red Devils’ nightmare start to the season continued after being knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Newcastle on Wednesday night.

That damaging loss at Old Trafford followed Ten Hag’s decisions being booed by fans during a 3-0 home defeat to bitter rivals Manchester City last weekend.
Man United are now out of the cup, sit eighth in the Premier League after losing five of their opening 10 games, and they have also lost twice in three Champions League fixtures.

The atrocious opening to the campaign has led to plenty of uncertainty surrounding the Ten Hag’s future at Old Trafford.
However, to sack their manager, United would have to pay a club-record fee of £15million, according to The Mirror.

Ten Hag is under contract until 2025 and is currently earning £9m-a-year.
If he was relieved of his duties now, the club would have to pay him his guaranteed salary as well as cough up cash to pay off his backroom staff.

This would be reportedly over double the amount paid when David Moyes was let go, with the Scotsman receiving £7million.
It also makes payments to Ole Gunnar Solksjaer and Louis van Gaal look small as they cost £7.5million and £8.4million respectively to sack.

The only manager to equal that amount when being sacked by Man United is Jose Mourinho who cost the club £15million in 2018.
Since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, United have spent a whopping total of £38million on sacking their managers.

And with Ten Hag walking a fine line, that number could be increased sooner rather than later.
Speaking about the questions surrounding his future after the 3-0 defeat to Newcastle, he said: “I understand it when the results are not there.
“It is also a logical process that they are questioning that. But I am confident I can do it. At all my clubs I have done it and also last year here I did it as well, but at this moment we are in a bad place.
“I take responsibility for it. I see it as a challenge. I am a fighter and I am in that fight and I have to make sure that I share the responsibility with my players and that we stick together and fight together, and get better results.”

“While this has not been the start to the season that we had all hoped for, I am certain that we have the talent and attitude as a collective to move in the right direction.
