Victor Osimhen ‘waiting for Man Utd’ as Nigeria superstar makes transfer announcement
According to Football Transfer, Rio Ferdinand has expressed his belief that Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen is “waiting for Manchester United” after reportedly rejecting a big-money offer from Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal.
The former Manchester United defender made the remarks on his YouTube channel while discussing potential transfer targets for the Red Devils this summer.
Osimhen, who is considered one of the most coveted forwards in global football, spent the 2024–25 season on loan at Turkish giants Galatasaray from Napoli. With a permanent move away from the Serie A club widely expected, the race for his signature is heating up. Clubs such as Arsenal, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with the 25-year-old, alongside interest from the Saudi Pro League, particularly Al-Hilal, who reportedly tabled a substantial financial offer.
However, Ferdinand believes Osimhen may have his sights set on Old Trafford. “No.9? They already know who I want. The comments know, the people know who I want, who I would go and get: Osimhen!” Ferdinand said. “It looks like he’s turned down Al-Hilal… he must be waiting for Man Utd. I don’t know if Man Utd are going to come. That’s the problem.”
Osimhen himself has acknowledged the mounting speculation surrounding his future. Speaking to Nigerian YouTuber Daddy Freeze, he confirmed interest from multiple clubs but stressed that he is currently focused on his break after the long season. “It’s always like this when the season ends and the summer transfer window begins,” he said (via Daily Post Nigeria). “You have a lot of clubs wanting your services, but right now, I’m focused on my holiday and enjoying myself. While I’m enjoying my break, I’m also reminiscing about the past season I had with Galatasaray—watching clips of my goals, the mistakes I made, and the things I did well.”
Osimhen’s loan spell at Galatasaray proved fruitful, with the striker scoring 18 goals across all competitions and helping the Turkish side secure the league title. His performances reignited interest from Europe’s elite, and Napoli are believed to be open to selling him this summer for the right price, especially with a €130 million release clause in his contract.
Manchester United, under new sporting director Dan Ashworth and manager Ruben Amorim, are reportedly in the market for a world-class No.9 to partner or compete with Rasmus Højlund. Osimhen’s pace, strength, and goal-scoring instincts fit the profile, but financial constraints and competition from other clubs could complicate any potential move.
