Hello and welcome to the Manchester United transfer blog as the summer window approaches its conclusion.

We are just over a week from deadline day for the Premier League and the rest of Europe, but while it will soon be time for the market to shut, the Reds are still working on deals. The most likely incoming at this stage is Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

Erik ten Hag wants to sign the Uruguay international on either a permanent deal or on loan with either an obligation or option to buy in the summer of 2025. The preference would be to sign him permanently, but the fee of £51.5m is out of their price range, meaning a loan with an obligation to buy is now the most likely outcome

However, any move could become more manageable if Jadon Sancho moves on before the end of the window. The United winger is back in the fold with Ten Hag, but MEN Sport understands he is one of five players the Reds would be open to selling and is valued at £40m by the Reds.

However, matching the player’s wages is seemingly stalling any move away. Scott McTominay is another player who could be on the move with Napoli showing interest in the midfielder, but they must meet United’s £30m asking price.

Hannibal Mejbri could also head to Championship club Burnley, while Will Fish is on the verge of signing for Cardiff City. Facundo Pellistri has already completed a move to Panathinaikos, but the expectation is that Victor Lindelof will now stay.

One surprise move is the seemingly imminent arrival of Sekou Kone. United have reportedly agreed on a deal with Malian side Guidars FC for the teenage defensive midfielder, who will likely join the club’s under-21s alongside other summer signing Chido Obi Martin.

Keep up with the latest United news, views and transfer rumours below.

Ugarte ‘final stages’

Manuel Ugarte’s move to United is reputedly in its final stages and is seemingly almost completed as the weekend approaches.

Fabrizio Romano claims that is the case, which is why the midfielder has again been left out of the Paris Saint-Germain squad for tonight’s Ligue 1 match against Montpellier. However, he is not the only notable absentee, with Carlos Soler also missing amid speculation about a Premier League switch to West Ham United.

Sancho blow

Barcelona are reportedly looking at other opportunities in the transfer market rather than Jadon Sancho.

Fabrizio Romano has told CaughtOffside for the Daily Briefing that Federico Chiesa and Kingsley Coman are among those. It is claimed that Chiesa and Marc Pubill – a player they are also linked with – share the same agent, Fali Ramadani of LIAN Sports.

It is said there are no updates on Barca and Sancho, contrary to reports in the Catalan media. However, he is one of five players United are prepared to loan or sell before the transfer window closes, which MEN Sport reported yesterday.

Dream transfer scenario unveiled

According to Sport, United and Tottenham Hotspur are battling it out to sign Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen this summer. The former Chelsea man is thought to be willing to contemplate a move away from Catalonia after the emergence of wonderkid Pau Cubarsi.

This fact, coupled with Barca’s financial difficulties, has alerted both United and Spurs to the centre-back’s possible availability before the deadline.

United ‘discuss’ Sancho personal terms

According to Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth, Juventus have an interest in bringing Sancho to their club this summer. It is believed that with a week to go in the window, the Turin club have become open to making their interest in the winger formal and have discussed personal terms with the Reds.

United are thought to be open to considering reasonable bids for Sancho before the window closes.

Sheikh Jassim ‘role’ in Ugarte to United transfer delay as PSG send strong message

United have been embroiled in a ‘battle of egos’ this summer as they try to bring PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte to Old Trafford and it dates back to Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani’s interest in the club, it has been claimed.

Last year, the Reds were involved in a seemingly endless takeover saga as Ineos’ Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim battled for a stake in United. Eventually after many negotiations and false dawns, Sir Jim was announced on Christmas Eve as having won the race to invest in the Reds.

After the deal was eventually ratified in February, Ratcliffe took aim at Sheikh Jassim joking that he did not think the billionaire was ‘real’ and that the Glazer family had not met him. According to journalist Duncan Castle, this saga angered PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi who wanted to make an example of Ratcliffe via the deal for Ugarte.

Who is Sekou Kone? Meet United new wonderkid signing who has secret Tottenham link

Manchester United have reportedly agreed to sign Mali youth international Sekou Kone from Guidars FC.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims the 18-year-old midfielder will swap his homeland for Old Trafford before the end of the transfer window. United reportedly fended off interest from ‘several clubs’ for Kone’s signature, who could now be set for an exciting future in Manchester.

Fans will be eager to see the new signing in action, with the young midfielder being something of an unknown quantity before his surprise switch to United. What do we know about the 18-year-old set to be the Reds’ latest academy swoop?

‘Astronomical’ bid ready

Inter are reportedly set to blow United out of the water for Juventus winger Federico Chiesa.

According to Sport, United are one of five teams believed to have shown an interest in the Italian winger. It is understood Chiesa would be allowed to leave Juventus should a reasonable bid be submitted.

However, the Reds are unlikely to sign the 26-year-old now with Inter preparing an ‘astronomical’ wage offer for the forward. There is thought to be some hope for United if they find the money for a new winger as Juve would prefer to sell him to a club abroad rather than enhance a direct rival.

Former Man United midfielder Paul Pogba receives ‘boost’ ahead doping hearing

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is reportedly due to have his appeal against a four-year ban heard by the Court of Arbitration for Sport next week.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who claim the 31-year-old has been provided with “fresh hope” in his attempts to restore his career after tennis player Jannik Sinner recently avoided a doping ban for successfully arguing that his failed drug test had come as a result of contamination.

Will Sekou Kone play for the Manchester United first team?

Fabrizio Romano says that Kone is part of United’s long-term plan, in a similar way to Chido Obi Martin who joined the club from Arsenal earlier this month.

Like Obi Martin, Kone is a youth international for his country and will more than likely join up with United’s youth teams for the 2024/25 season.

Manchester United are copying Man City transfer trick to beat FFP concerns

Facundo Pellistri might no longer be a Manchester United player, but club officials will hope the winger continues to shine as he begins his career away from Old Trafford.

The Uruguayan’s permanent exit was confirmed with a £5.1m move to Panathinaikos on Wednesday, with a further £1.7m due in add-ons, but the most eye-catching part of the deal was the size of the sell-on United had negotiated with the Greek outfit.

Whether Pellistri shines or not in Greece, United will pocket 45% of his next fee. If the 21-year-old is sold at a loss that won’t amount to much, but if he thrives for regular game time and lands a bigger move, then a substantial sum could be heading back to fill the coffers at Old Trafford. Pellistri will hope to find his way back to a big five European league and United will hope he can achieve that as well.

Ten Hag answers Manuel Ugarte question

Manchester United are close to agreeing a deal to sign Manuel Ugarte from Paris St-Germain after productive talks with the French giants.

The Uruguayan has been a top target for the club this summer but there has been some disagreement over the midfielder’s valuation during talks with Paris Saint-Germain.

When asked for update on Ugarte, Ten Hag said: “Ugarte deal? When we have news, we let you know. Just be patient, sit, wait. We’re working of course very hard, and we will always try to make the best squad possible.”

Erik ten Hag on Jadon Sancho

The winger continues to attract interest this summer. It’s said he has emerged as a loan option for Juventus, while Barcelona and Chelsea are also linked.

“We will see,” Ten Hag said during his press-conference. “We have a squad, I hope we will have a squad with double positioning and when we go into the season after September 1, that means you can’t select all the players but you need them all throughout the season.

“We have to manage it, the attitude of the players is very important, sometimes they will be disappointed they have to deal with it, you win as a squad. The prizes are decided next May and until then we need all the players in the squad and highly motivated, that is not an expectation, that is a demand on the squad.”

Ivan Toney would be ‘great addition’ to Man United

Ivan Toney’s future is yet to be resolved before the end of the summer transfer window.

Manchester United have been linked with a move for the Brentford striker and Chris Sutton believes he would be a ‘great asset’ for the Reds.

“I don’t see any downside to Ivan Toney signing for Manchester United,” he rold Instant Withdrawal Casino. “He’s now proven over a number of seasons that he’s a well-rounded player and more than a handful for opposition defenders in the Premier League.

“When you factor in the injury to Rasmus Hojlund, which is a big blow to United, then he would be a really good asset to them. He would give Erik ten Hag an excellent attacking option. You talk about ‘safety in numbers’ as well – Manchester United pick up so many injuries, so having some squad depth across their front line will obviously be beneficial.

“I remember he was linked heavily with Arsenal, but it didn’t get over the line for whatever reason, so I think he would be an asset for Manchester United – I don’t see anybody thinking that he wouldn’t be. He’s a really talented player and I feel like he would fit in well with that squad.”

More on Jadon Sancho

Gazzetta dello Sport claim Sancho has emerged as a loan option for Juventus.

The winger continues to be linked with a move away from Old Trafford despite impressing in pre-season. More questions over his future were raised after he missed United’s Premier League opener against Fulham, however, Erik ten Hag said it was due to illness.

Man United offered Chelsea defender

talkSPORT report United have been offered the opportunity to sign Ben Chilwell as he is not part of Enzo Maresca’s plans.

He was left out of Chelsea’s Premier League opener against Man City and Chelsea are looking to find a solution before the end of the window. Chilwell meanwhile, is thought to be assessing his options and is training apart from the first team.

Enzo Maresca said: “With Chilly, he’s lovely guy, but I said he is going to struggle with his position. It’s not brutal, it’s just honest.”

United are currently without left-backs Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia due to injury.

Scott McTominay latest

Napoli director is said to have returned to England to continue talks for the midfielder.

According to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, he is ‘still alive in the club’s minds’, however, his arrival in Turin would only be possible if other players were sold.

Manchester United edging closer to Manuel Ugarte signing after Paris St-Germain talks

Manchester United are close to agreeing a deal to sign Manuel Ugarte from Paris St-Germain after productive talks with the French giants.

Ugarte has been United’s top midfield target throughout the summer and the 23-year-old has been desperate to make the move to Old Trafford, but the two clubs were some way apart in their valuation during talks earlier in the window.

But Ugarte was left out of the PSG squad for their opening fixture of the Ligue 1 campaign last weekend and further talks have been held between the two clubs this week, with a deal now thought to be imminent. That is likely to be a season-long loan move with an obligation to buy.

Gareth Southgate lands new role after England exit and Man United links

Gareth Southgate, the former England head coach, has taken up a new role with UEFA, less than two months after his departure from the national team.

The 53-year-old ended his eight-year tenure with England following Euro 2024. In recent months, even before his exit from the England job was announced, Southgate’s name had been linked to several positions, including Manchester United prior to Erik ten Hag signing a new contract extension at Old Trafford.

Reports now suggest that Southgate has accepted a new position that will last until the end of the season. Meanwhile, Henry Winter claims he will be attending matches as a UEFA technical observer, alongside ex-West Ham United manager David Moyes.

Technical observers are responsible for analysing matches from a coaching viewpoint and producing comprehensive reports with video and statistical analysis. They have access to multiple camera angles, cutting-edge visualisation tools, and a wealth of data to aid their observations.

Manchester United include 16-year-old in first-team training after scoring two wonder goals

Jim Thwaites trained with Manchester United’s first-team at Carrington on Wednesday, despite being just 16 years old.

The highly regarded Thwaites was among the academy players drafted into the session to make up numbers ahead of facing Brighton, with his inclusion feeling significant given his age. Thwaites is considered as one of the academy’s leading prospects in his age group and won the club’s Goal of the Season award for both Under-16 and Under-18 level last term.

The youngster’s goal for the U18s was particularly important because it provided a late equaliser against Derby in added time. The U18s drew that game 2-2 thanks to Thwaites’ goal in the dying seconds and his strike ensured their unbeaten record in the league continued.
