We mean business: Ruud van Nistelrooy has sent out a 17 word message to Red Devils fans after the club’s pre-season tour

Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy has sent out a heartfelt message to Red Devils fans after the Premier League club’s pre-season tour came to an end.

Ruud van Nistelrooy made his triumphant return to Old Trafford as part of Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff, with the Dutchman appointed as assistant manager.

The 48-year-old ex-Netherlands striker was a Manchester United fan favourite during his prolific playing spell under legendary former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

Before his arrival as United assistant manager, Van Nistelrooy had been out of the managerial dugout after his departure from Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in 2023.

The United legend took his first steps into management with PSV Eindhoven in 2022 and led the Eredivisie club to a Dutch Cup in his one and only season as manager.

Van Nistelrooy stepped down from his role as PSV head coach before the end of the 2022-23 season after claiming that he felt he wasn’t supported from inside the club.

Man Utd legend Van Nistelrooy sends message

Manchester United signed off their pre-season tour on Sunday after a 3-0 defeat to Liverpool at the Williams–Brice Stadium in South Carolina.

The Red Devils had been in the United States for the second leg of the tour, with United losing 2-1 to Arsenal in California before defeating La Liga side Real Betis 3-2.

United lost their pre-season opener in July with a 1-0 defeat to Rosenborg in Norway before bouncing back with a 2-0 win over Rangers in Scotland.

Ruud van Nistelrooy took to social media platform Instagram and posted photos from his time on pre-season with the Red Devils in the United States.

The United legend thanked fans for their support before sharing his ‘excitement’ for the start of the 2024-25 Premier League season.

Van Nistelrooy wrote to his 830k followers: “United on tour. LA, San Diego, Columbia. Thanks for your support. [Excited] for the season to start.”

Ten Hag on bringing Van Nistelrooy to Man Utd

United will return to action on Saturday as the Red Devils travel to Wembley for the Community Shield clash against Manchester City at Wembley.

Erik ten Hag’s men will then face Fulham on 16th August at Old Trafford in their opening Premier League match of the 2024-25 season.

The Red Devils manager insisted that Van Nistelrooy would bring “some DNA of Manchester United” to the team and praised the “ambitious” Dutchman.

“First of all, his character has brought him so far and it’s an example for everyone here in the building,” Ten Hag said, as per The Daily Mirror.

“Of course, he will also bring some DNA of Manchester United in, but that character is such a strong driver and that is also what he shows as a coach.

“He has such a highly interesting profile, he’s so ambitious, he has the skills and he already has a lot of experience.

“He’s assisted the Dutch squad, in PSV he did the Under-19s as a manager, he did the Under-21s, Jong PSV, who were playing at the second level.

“Then he was manager of the first team. So much experience, but very young, very ambitious, very driven. With his skills and his intelligence, he will help all the players and the team.”
