How reacted Alejandro Garnacho when Erik ten Hag subbed him for Manchester United v Coventry today

Manchester United relieved some of the pressure on Erik ten Hag by beating Coventry City at Wembley today to get to the FA Cup final.

In a season of ups and downs, Ten Hag will be delighted to get to a final and in with a chance of winning a major trophy.

Manchester City will await them in what will be a tough ask for United. But with it just being one game and City apparently running on fumes – if you believe their manager – there could be a chance for United to win out.

Today, Ten Hag saw some of his big performers step up when it mattered in what was a crazy game.

Scott McTominay got the opener, before Harry Maguire scored just before the break and Bruno Fernandes netted around the hour mark to seal the deal.

Of course, the game wasn’t finished just there as Coventry mounted the mother of all comebacks to take the game to penalties.

Away from the semi-final, one of the stories that had dominated the run up to the semi-final has been Alejandro Garnacho’s poor response to being subbed last week.

Since then, Erik ten Hag has disciplined his winger but still afforded him the start at Wembley today before eventually taking him off at 3-0 up.

However, according to the BBC’s Simon Stone, it looks like Garnacho could once again be about to feel some sort of wrath from his manager.

Commentating on the game for the BBC, Simon Stone noted how Garnacho went about his business when subbed off today.

And while he shook hands with his manager, his overall reaction wasn’t overly impressive once more.

“After apologising for liking a couple of social media posts when he was taken off at Bournemouth last week, Alejandro Garnacho shook Erik ten Hag’s hand when he was replaced by Antony,” Stone said.

“He didn’t look too impressed on his long, slow walk to the touchline though. It is a bit disrespectful to the player who is coming on.”

Certainly, it seems like young Garnacho has a bit of a bee in his bonnet about certain things.

In fairness to Ten Hag, he has had a number of these sorts of issues to deal with.

This one will probably be a bit of nothing. But Garnacho must be careful and he cannot make a habit of this sort of thing.

Erik ten Hag ready to quit if Manchester United don’t fulfil one promise

Erik ten Hag would be willing to step down as Man United manager

As reported by Metro, Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag will be ready to step down from his position if he doesn’t receive the full backing from the club’s new owners, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS group.

There has been a lot of talk suggesting that the people at Man United aren’t happy with the Dutchman. Recently the club has failed to put any wins on the board so talk surrounding Ten Hag’s future has only gotten louder.

Now, people are also starting to link other managers to the job. Zinedine Zidane is a name we’ve heard in recent weeks. Clearly, Erik ten Hag won’t be happy about everything that is going on at Old Trafford.

So while there is a chance that he could be sacked it seems like there is also a chance that the Dutchman will step down on his own. If the club doesn’t fulfil their one promise and give Ten Hag the support he needs he could leave.

Now, this might excite a few but if the Dutchman decides to leave abruptly it could leave the club scrambling for a new manager. Moreover, it is unfair to him that the owners haven’t spoken out in support.

Yes, the Dutchman is struggling and the possibility of him being sacked is very real. But the owners should make a decision already, leaving him to play under pressure is not good for Ten Hag or the team.

Hopefully, Man United will soon make their intentions about next season clear

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has opened up on his desire to stop Manchester City’s dominance, his biggest issue with football and plans to build a new stadium.

The INEOS chief purchased a 27.7 per cent stake in United earlier this year and his impact since joining has already been clearly felt. Omar Berrada was appointed CEO with Jason Wilcox and Dan Ashworth set to form part of United’s new technical operations team.

The 2023/24 season has been another mixed campaign for United but they will hope to end it with a trophy as they vie for a spot in the FA Cup final against Manchester City. To get there though, United will have to beat Championship side Coventry City at Wembley in the semi-finals.

With the showpiece clash to be played in the capital, numerous fans have travelled down from Manchester and the Midlands to take in the action, however they won’t be the only visitors in the capital. The 2024 London Marathon has also taken place today and Ratcliffe was one of the thousands running the 26.2 mile race.

After finishing the marathon, Ratcliffe was interviewed live on BBC Sport where he delved into a number of topics which included firing a clear warning to Man City. “We’d definitely be the underdogs [if we reached FA Cup final against Man City], unfortunately, not for long though.”

When asked about the comparisons between running a marathon and running Man United, he said: “There are some parallels. It just requires some grit. In the marathon after the 30k it gets quite difficult and I don’t think we’re quite at 30k in the football at the minute. We’re not even [at a half marathon] yet either. We’re probably at 10k.”

One of the biggest problems in football is getting these new guys to come into the team but they’re all on gardening leave, so it takes you 6, 12 or even 18 months before they come in. It’s a real issue in football. To make a change you need to bring new people in.”

“They can’t work for us and the fans are impatient and I knew that but it’s a journey and people, whether they like it or not, have to be patient. It’s not a sprint we can’t just turn it around like that but I’m sure we will.”

On plans to build a new stadium, he added: “I’d love to do that. I think that would be fantastic for the north of England. That whole area of southern Manchester, it’s where the industrial revolution began and that’s why they built Old Trafford because the workers would finish their shift and walk to the ground.

“So it was where industry and manufacturing began, so it is a really important area but it is run down. So to rege

nerate that area and build a Wembley of the north, I think would be a marvellous project.”
