What Bruno Fernandes Said About Ruben Amorim After Europa League Defeat

After Manchester United’s painful loss to Tottenham in the Europa League final, captain Bruno Fernandes stood by manager Ruben Amorim, showing faith in the Portuguese coach despite a tough end to the season.

Speaking after the match, the Manchester United captain defended Amorim and made it clear he still believes in his leadership. He said the results this season do not fully reflect Amorim’s ability as a manager. According to Bruno, one bad campaign should not erase what Amorim can bring to the club in the long term.

The defeat was hard to take for fans and players alike, especially with The Red Devils failing to lift silverware in a season full of ups and downs. There have been growing questions about whether Amorim is the right man for the job, particularly after a run of poor form in the league and now the Europa League heartbreak.

But Bruno’s public support might ease some pressure. As one of the leaders in the dressing room, his opinion carries weight. He insisted that Amorim still has the qualities to take Manchester United forward and should be trusted to continue building the team.

Bruno’s comments also hint at a desire for stability at the club. After several changes in management over the years, sticking with a long-term plan might help the Red Devils get back to their best.

While the final loss hurts, Fernandes’ words show that the players have not given up on Amorim, and that could be key as the club looks ahead to next season.

Manchester United’s hopes of Europa League glory were dashed on Wednesday as they suffered a narrow 0-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the final held at San Mamés Stadium, Bilbao.

Despite facing a Spurs squad weakened by injuries, the Red Devils failed to capitalize and were left to rue missed opportunities.

Here are the mistakes which cost United a win;

Lack of Offensive Threats Exposed

United’s attacking display was uninspiring throughout the match. Aside from a Rasmus Hojlund header, which came from an error by Spurs goalkeeper Vicario, and a shot from Alejandro Garnacho, the team rarely threatened Tottenham’s goal.

Dominating possession did little to break down Spurs’ defense, with United often recycling the ball sideways and backwards without creating meaningful chances.

The absence of width in their approach further limited their ability to penetrate.

Tactical Flaws in Amorim’s Approach

The 3-4-3 formation deployed by manager Ruben Amorim once again failed to deliver against Premier League opposition, continuing a pattern observed throughout the season. Amorim’s focus on the Europa League as a path back to the Champions League appeared misplaced, especially as domestic league form remains precarious.

His decision to start Rasmus Hojlund, who has struggled for form all season, over the more dynamic Alejandro Garnacho was widely questioned.

Selection and Squad Concerns

Other selections raised eyebrows, including the choice to play Luke Shaw despite his lack of sharpness since returning from injury, when healthier alternatives like Victor Lindelof and Ayden Heaven were available.

With no major trophies secured, uncertain Champions League qualification, and a possible low league finish looming, the club’s ownership faces difficult questions.

Limited transfer resources may leave Amorim with a challenging task ahead in his first full season, raising concerns about the club’s future trajectory if improvements are not quickly made.
