What has Harry Maguire said about Manchester United teammate Kobbie Mainoo?

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has waxed lyrical about Kobbie Mainoo, explaining why the Red Devils ace reminds him of Jude Bellingham.

Maguire, speaking to The Times, said the Old Trafford academy graduate is a “strong, powerful” midfielder who looks as though he’s “got everything”.

Mainoo has become a fixture in the Manchester United starting XI this season after only making his first Premier League start in November.

The 18-year-old then scored his first Premier League goal in February, a superb solo effort against Wolves to hand the Red Devils a 4-3 win.

Mainoo has been so impressive and has so much potential that Gareth Southgate has named him in the latest England squad.

The youngster could well make his Three Lions debut this month, with the Euro 2020 finalists set for friendlies against Brazil and Belgium at Wembley.

What has Harry Maguire said about Manchester United teammate Kobbie Mainoo?

Many within the world of football have been raving about Mainoo, and Maguire is the latest to sing his praises.

I’ve been a massive fan of him ever since he first started training with us,” Maguire said.

“I remember speaking to Tom Heaton [United’s reserve goalkeeper] about him and saying, ‘I feel like this boy has got everything.’

“He can handle the ball brilliantly. He’s really strong and powerful. The No 6 role is a huge responsibility and I’m sure the positional part of his game will improve drastically the more he plays.

“You’ve seen on Sunday the ability and talent he has, and he fully deserves his call-up [to the England senior side].

It’s actually incredible he’s 18, he’s so mature. He’s a bit like Jude [Bellingham] was when he was a young boy. He’s got a mature head on his shoulders.

“He just wants to work hard and do well. I congratulated him, said he deserved it, keep it up, and make sure he enjoys himself.”

It’s always great to see an academy talent make the breakthrough at a huge club like Manchester United, and Defender says he wouldn’t reject Manchester United, but Liverpool are by far his favourite club

Manchester United and Liverpool were topics in an interview given by Swedish defender Henrik Castegren this week.

The player was interviewed by Allsvenskan, and when quizzed about his future, there was a very specific story about the two English clubs.

The reason for it is that Castegren is a Liverpool fan, while his wife, who’s a social media influencer, recently made a joke with him by showing their son wearing a Manchester United shirt.

So while the centre-back claims that he wants to play at the highest level possible, the newspaper asked him whether it’s the Red Devils who’d be a ‘dream club’ for him.

What Antony told his favourite teammate ahead of Manchester United win vs Liverpool FC

Antony has hailed the support of Manchester United teammate Diogo Dalot, admitting he told him ahead of last weekend’s FA Cup quarter-final victory over Liverpool that he was going to score.

After stepping off the bench with 71 minutes on the clock to replace Rasmus Hojlund, the Brazilian plundered his first Old Trafford goal in more than 12 months to make it 2-2 and send the contest to extra-time. He turned sharply inside the penalty area and fired an instinctive finish on his weaker right foot.

United, of course, won the contest in extra-time, scoring through Marcus Rashford, who made it 3-3, and Amad. As a reward, they will now face Coventry City in the last four at Wembley next month.

Despite struggling to make an impact at Old Trafford since his arrival from Ajax in September 2022, Antony has refused to lose faith in his hopes of making his mark in England. And he has admitted that Dalot has played a key role in keeping his spirits up, insisting he is ‘more than a friend’.

I’m very grateful to God and to a friend I talk to a lot,” said Antony, as quoted by United’s club website. “Diogo Dalot is more than a friend to me, he’s a guy who helps me every day at the club.

We have a phrase that we always say to each other: the patient guy is unbeatable. We always talk about it. So I’m very grateful to him for his advice, for the moments we had together talking. He’s a guy who’s helped me a lot.

Before the game, I told Diogo that I felt something different. I felt something good. I felt I was going to score today, so I’m very happy about that.

“With regard to Dalot, as I said, he’s my best friend here at the club. He’s a guy we’re always talking to, he’s always advising me and his mentality is out of the ordinary.”
