Mbeumo’s Bruno Fernandes message speaks volumes about his true character
Manchester United star Bryan Mbeumo has called on the Reds to provide some support for Bruno Fernandes amid the midfielder’s up-and-down season
Bryan Mbeumo has called on his Manchester United team-mates to support captain Bruno Fernandes, following the midfielder’s latest disappointment. Ruben Amorim’s star missed a penalty in defeat to Brentford at the weekend, the second miss from 12 yards of the season for Fernandes.
After proving to be the team’s talisman during his time at the club, often offering the only positives in a torrid period at Old Trafford, Fernandes has struggled to thwart United’s slow start to the season. The Reds are currently 14th in the Premier League with seven points from six matches and once again struggling to find the net.
The Portugal international has been on the scoresheet for United’s two wins this season, however. Fernandes scored a penalty against Burnley and in a dramatic victory over Chelsea.
And Mbeumo, 26, believes United must find a way to success when Fernandes does not contribute, in order to repay their captain.
“It’s important to support him because this is what he’s doing every time,” he said. “I think it’s normal for us to carry him as well sometimes because he gives us a lot, and it’s good for him to have us as well.”
Mbeumo, who has drawn praise from Fernandes already this term, also wants to help United to better results for supporters.
The forward joined the club from Brentford earlier this summer in a £71million move as United looked to replenish their forward line.
The Cameroon international wants all of Amorim’s squad to take ownership of improving results quickly. Mbeumo believes United’s stature demands better.
“Obviously disappointed with the result, I had a warm welcome back from the fans and I will never forget that,” he said of the defeat to his former side.
“I think everyone in the team needs to take responsibility. When you play in a club this big, everyone needs to know what to do – as a team, we need to do better.”
Mbeumo remains positive that he and fellow new forwards Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha can find success. United spent £200m on the strikerforce.
“It’s exciting, because we get to learn to play with new players and it’s always challenging, but that’s what we like as footballers,” Mbeumo said.
“Of course it will improve, we haven’t played a lot together, so there are certain things that we’re going to improve, and there are different types of players, but it’s good to be with them.”
Mbeumo’s Bruno Fernandes Message Speaks Volumes About His True Character
When footballers exchange words on or off the pitch, the messages often reveal more about their personalities than the goals they score or the tackles they win. Such was the case with Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo’s message directed at Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes—a gesture that, while small in form, spoke volumes about Mbeumo’s true character.

A Gesture Beyond the Game
Mbeumo’s message to Fernandes was neither boastful nor confrontational. Instead, it carried respect, humility, and empathy. In a Premier League climate where rivalries are fierce, and post-match comments often stir controversy, Mbeumo’s tone stood out as measured and human.
Football has long been dominated by fiery exchanges, but increasingly, fans appreciate moments of sportsmanship and mutual respect. Mbeumo demonstrated that even in an era defined by pressure and ego, the human element remains central to the game.

Respecting the Role of a Leader
By addressing Bruno Fernandes specifically, Mbeumo acknowledged Fernandes’ leadership role at Manchester United. Regardless of how fans and pundits may critique the Portuguese midfielder’s style—sometimes accused of being overly dramatic or critical of teammates—Mbeumo’s words showed that professionals see beyond caricatures.
He recognized Fernandes as a captain, someone tasked with leading a massive club through turbulent times. In doing so, Mbeumo displayed maturity: understanding that leadership, no matter how it looks from the outside, deserves respect from fellow professionals.

Character in Contrast
What made the message even more striking was the context. United have been under immense scrutiny, with Fernandes often caught in the middle of criticism for both his performances and his demeanor. It would have been easy for Mbeumo to dismiss or even mock him after Brentford’s battles with United. Instead, he chose grace over antagonism.
This contrast highlighted Mbeumo’s character. He values respect above rivalry, empathy above ego. In a sport where narratives are often fueled by conflict, his words reflected calmness and authenticity.

What It Says About Mbeumo
Mbeumo’s message adds another layer to the growing admiration for him. Already respected for his work rate, versatility, and consistency in the Brentford attack, he is now seen as a player with integrity. Fans, teammates, and even opponents will remember that he is not only talented but also thoughtful.
This is the mark of a footballer who understands that legacy goes beyond statistics. Goals and assists define careers, but moments of character define reputations. Mbeumo is carving out both.

Conclusion: A Quiet Statement of Class
Bryan Mbeumo’s message to Bruno Fernandes will not be remembered as a headline-grabbing soundbite or a social media storm. Instead, it will be remembered as a quiet statement of class—a reminder that true character is revealed in how we treat others, especially when rivalry or criticism could tempt us otherwise.
In football, respect is rare currency. By offering it freely, Mbeumo has shown exactly the kind of professional, and person, he is.
