The Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust (THST) has criticized the club’s decision to enter into a multi-year partnership with rewards and engagement platform Socios.

As part of the deal, Spurs will offer free, non-transferable Spurs Fan Tokens to all season ticket holders, which provide access to items such as polls, predictions, quizzes and competitions on the website Socios, as well as the possibility of earning points. to unlock rewards and experiences.

The Spurs Fan Token will later be available for non-members to purchase for $2 (£1.64).

Spurs say the Socios partnership will also fund the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation’s Reignite programme, which aims to provide employment opportunities for adults and support healthy lifestyles in the local community.

However, THST released a statement shortly after the announcement, expressing “deep concern” about the partnership and how it could allow a “third-party vendor to monetize the fandom.” The supporters group said: “The club states that One Hotspur members and season ticket holders will receive one and five free tokens respectively and the deal then encourages fans to enter a cryptocurrency ecosystem that many fans know little about it but are encouraged to do so. more tokens to “win” things.

“The club enjoys the trust of fans and we fear many will find themselves in a system they do not understand and which is designed to monetize their support and love for the club.”

“It’s important that there are no financial or technological barriers to fan engagement, but this relationship potentially creates both. THST expects the club to protect our fans from financial loss, but this partnership appears to have the opposite effect by exposing fans to potential losses.

“We will also ask the club to confirm that fan data will not be passed to a provider without further consultation or consent.”

PREMIER LEAGUETottenham keen to re-sign Marcus Edward

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly exploring the possibility of re-signing Marcus Edwards in the next transfer window, Portuguese media outlet O Jogo reports. After coming through the youth ranks at Spurs, the 24-year-old decided to join Portuguese La Liga side Vitoria Guimaraes permanently in 2019. After showing glimpses of his talent for the Conquerors, the Englishman caught the attention of Sporting CP , so the Lions decided to secure his signature last year.

After moving to the Jose Alvalade Stadium, Edwards has continued to produce impressive performances for Ruben Amorim’s side in recent seasons. It seems that the striker’s eye-catching performances have attracted the attention of several major European clubs, including Tottenham, who have shown their interest.

Citing and translating the paper version of O Jogo, Sport Witness claims that Tottenham are planning a transfer for Edwards and that they recently contacted Sporting to find out the details of his signing. However, the report states that the Portuguese giants have made it clear that they have no plans to sell their star anytime soon. So Spurs face a tough challenge in convincing the Lions to cash in on their star man if they formalize their interest.

O Jogo also specifies that Spurs will in the future receive 35% of the compensation that Sporting will acquire from the sale of the striker. So Tottenham can secure Edwards’ signature for a significantly lower fee than any other club if they make a move for him.

The striker – valued at around £26 million by Transfermarkt – has three years left on his current contract, so Sporting are in a strong position to demand a big fee if they are forced to cash in next year to get him. Edwards is a versatile striker as he can play anywhere in the attacking midfield. He is fast and technically good, can dribble past opposing defenders in tight spaces, has the ability to create chances for other attackers and can also convert his own chances.

The Englishman is a very talented player and has great potential, so he would be a great move for Spurs if they signed him.

However, it will be interesting to see if Tottenham ultimately choose to take a hands-on approach to securing Edwards’ signature in the next transfer window to strengthen their attack.
