Scott McTominay Reflects on Manchester United Departure and Success at Napoli

Scott McTominay has opened up about his departure from Manchester United, just months into his flourishing career with Napoli. The Scotland international, who joined the Serie A club in a £25.7 million move last summer, spent 22 years at Old Trafford, rising through the academy ranks to become a first-team regular.

Although McTominay has quickly adapted to life in Italy, his transfer wasn’t without challenges. Former United manager Erik ten Hag expressed regret over losing the midfielder, citing financial pressures from the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) as a key factor behind the move.

In a recent interview with *The Times*, McTominay reflected on his emotional departure from the club he called home but maintained that he has no regrets.

“No Looking Back”

Discussing the transfer, McTominay called it a turning point in his career:

“Obviously, it’s a big decision; there’s no denying that,” he said. “It was a huge decision for me, my family, and my friends. At moments like that, you just have to ask yourself, ‘Do I want to do it? Absolutely,’ and go for it. There’s no looking back.

“I’ve never had regrets in my life or career, and I continue with that mindset. I want my career to be successful, and I’ll go out of my way to push myself to be the best footballer and person I can possibly be.”

Thriving in Serie A

Since joining Napoli, McTominay has impressed with his performances, registering three goals in ten appearances. He attributes his smooth transition to maintaining focus and avoiding external distractions.

“I don’t read newspapers or social media. That’s something I stay well away from,” McTominay explained. “The past is the past. I’m enjoying my football and focused on pushing my team higher up the table and giving my best for my manager in Italy.”

Grateful for Support

Moving to a new league and country can be challenging, but McTominay credits his support network for making the transition easier.

“I’ve got great people in my life who help me so much. The stress in my life is minimal because of my amazing family, friends, and my lovely girlfriend,” he said. “It’s not easy going abroad and settling in, but the Italian people have been incredible. They’ve helped me with everything—finding a house, arranging transport, or anything I’ve needed. I’m very grateful for their support.”

A Bright Future

McTominay’s early success at Napoli signals a promising future for the midfielder. While leaving Manchester United marked the end of an era, it has opened new doors and opportunities for growth.

His strong performances have already earned plaudits, and McTominay appears determined to make the most of his time in Italy. Both player and club seem poised for an exciting journey ahead, with McTominay eager to make his mark in Serie A.
