I will do everything necessary to make sure that Sporting CP’s star forward Viktor Gyokeres signs for Manchester United – Reuben Amorim
Manchester United could be in line to secure Sporting CP’s star forward Viktor Gyokeres next summer, with the potential for a lower transfer fee than his hefty £84 million release clause as reported by Stretty News.
Gyokeres, who has excelled for Sporting this season, has reportedly become a priority for United, especially with the appointment of Ruben Amorim as the club’s head coach.
Amorim, a former Sporting manager, may have insight into Gyokeres’ situation at the Portuguese club, making him a crucial figure in United’s pursuit.
Former Arsenal defender William Gallas doubts Arsenal’s chances in signing the Swedish international, instead tipping Manchester United to have the edge.
Arsenal and Chelsea are also reportedly interested in the 26-year-old, but United’s approach seems more decisive.
Gyokeres’ release clause at Sporting stands at around £84 million, running until 2028.
However, The Sun reports a gentleman’s agreement between Gyokeres and Sporting that could see him leave for a reduced fee at the end of the season.
Sporting are said to be open to a deal starting around £67 million, potentially lowering it to £63 million.
Amorim, who recently addressed his former players, appeared to acknowledge Gyokeres’ unique situation, saying, “Gyokeres is a Sporting player and it’s a great club, he did a lot for the club. He just has to stay and finish the season at the club.”
Gyokeres has publicly praised Amorim’s impact, expressing his and his teammates’ admiration. “We will miss him a lot,” Gyokeres said. “We’ve done amazing things together.”
New Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has dropped a strong hint regarding his first major signing, with reports suggesting that the Portuguese tactician is keen on bringing Sporting CP winger Pedro Goncalves to Old Trafford as reported by Daily Express.
Amorim, 39, officially took charge at Manchester United on Monday, following his move from Sporting CP for a reported £9.25 million compensation fee.
With the January transfer window just around the corner, and United currently languishing in 13th place in the Premier League, Amorim is expected to make his mark by reinforcing the squad.
The move comes after Erik ten Hag’s departure last month, following a series of disappointing results despite heavy investment in the summer transfer market.
United’s hierarchy are now hoping that Amorim’s experience and tactical insight can restore the club’s fortunes.
One name that has emerged as a potential target is Pedro Goncalves.
According to reports, United are closely monitoring the 26-year-old, who had a standout season last year, helping Sporting win their second Primeira Liga title in four years.
Gonçalves can operate as a winger or in central midfield. Last season, he made 49 appearances across all competitions, scoring 18 goals and providing 16 assists.
His impressive performances earned him a call-up to the Portuguese national team.
Amorim, who worked with Goncalves at Sporting, has long been an admirer of his qualities.
During his final press conference with Sporting, Amorim praised Goncalves following a thrilling 4-2 win over Braga, stating: “He can play for any team in the world and with any player because he is a great player. I could take him anywhere.”
Sporting are reportedly demanding a hefty £66.5 million for Goncalves, but with Amorim now in charge at Manchester United, the connection between the two may give the Premier League club an edge in negotiations.
