Kansas State transfer quarterback Will Howard recently spoke highly of Ohio State’s expected 2025 starting quarterback, Devin Brown, adding excitement—and pressure—to the Buckeyes’ future signal-caller.

Howard, who joined the Buckeyes for the 2024 season via the transfer portal, is expected to be Ohio State’s starter this fall. However, with just one year of eligibility remaining, all eyes are on Brown as the likely successor in 2025. During a recent interview, Howard praised Brown’s talent, calling him a quarterback with “a real chance to be elite.”

“Devin’s got all the tools,” Howard said. “He’s got the arm talent, the mobility, and the work ethic. If he keeps developing the way he has been, he’s going to be special.”

Brown, a former four-star recruit, has spent the past two seasons learning under C.J. Stroud and Kyle McCord. While injuries and depth chart battles have limited his playing time, he has impressed coaches with his playmaking ability and strong leadership qualities.

With Howard set to take the reins in 2024, Brown will likely spend the season preparing for his shot in 2025. The Buckeyes’ offense, loaded with talent at receiver and running back, could set him up for success. However, Howard’s public praise also puts added pressure on Brown to live up to expectations.

Ohio State fans are eager to see how the quarterback room evolves, especially with five-star freshman Air Noland also in the mix. But for now, Brown appears to be the heir apparent—one that Howard believes can reach an elite level.
