Erik ten Hag has named his team to face the current Premier League champions, who are in the hunt for a fourth consecutive title.

Andre Onana starts between the posts.

Diogo Dalot and Victor Lindelof will take up the full-back roles, while Jonny Evans will partner Raphael Varane at centre-back.

Kobbie Mainoo returns to the team to join Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes in midfield. Another midfielder in the team is Scott McTominay, although it remains to be seen if he will play a more attacking role against City.

Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho are being tasked with providing the goals this afternoon. The former has a point to prove.

Manchester United XI vs City: Onana; Dalot, Evans, Martinez, Lindelof; Casemiro, Mainoo, Fernandes; Garnacho, McTominay, Rashford.

United go into the game after winning 1-0 against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup fifth round on Wednesday night, which ensured progression to the quarter-finals of the competition, and today we want to build on that result.

City also progressed to the next round of the FA Cup after beating Luton Town.

The Reds are looking to record their first win at the Etihad since March 2021 when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was in charge, and Ten Hag could do with a positive result today.

While Rasmus Hojlund and Lisandro Martinez travelled with the squad to the Etihad, neither of them were fit enough to make themselves available for the game itself.

Manchester United are underdogs as they face City at the Etihad Stadium.

Speaking to United’s official website, a bullish Casemiro said that he and the squad were going into the ‘beautiful’ derby with a positive mindset.

Casemiro also told his teammates to enjoy the game against Pep Guardiola’s side.

“They’re the games where you notice the fans want the game. The players want the game. The club want the game,” he said.

“I think they’re games and days that are meant to be enjoyed. That’s how I feel. They’re beautiful games.”

Casemiro has said they’d treat the game against Manchester City as a final.

“Well, you get used to it, you know? In the end, when you play so many matches. In the end, despite being a derby and an important game for us, we know that at the end of the day every game is important,” he added.

“We know that in order to win, if we win that match it’ll boost the team morale and the club morale, especially considering how important it would be for the end of the season.

“But we have to face every match like a final, as if they were all important matches. So I think this is another important match for us.”

The eyes of the football world will be on Manchester City vs Manchester United today – but fans hoping to tune into the latest installment of the Manchester derby will need to clock the unusual 3.30pm kick-off time.

Pep Guardiola’s men will be hoping for a repeat of the 3-0 scoreline which the defending champions secured at Old Trafford earlier in the season, with a brace from Erling Haaland and one from Phil Foden handing City the local bragging rights.

The home side will be desperate for the three points to stay within touch of Liverpool in the Premier League title race, whom they currently sit four points behind at the top of the league summit.

Manchester United and Erik ten Hag, meanwhile, have plenty of work to do if they are to make up ground on fourth-placed Aston Villa, who occupy the last guaranteed Champions League qualification spot for next season.

So, why exactly is the Manchester derby kicking-off at the unusual time this afternoon?
