Livestream Matchday live: Nigeria: Angola live match š
The stage is set for a thrilling showdown as the Super Eagles of Nigeria gear up to face Angola in a crucial quarter-final match at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny in the African Cup of Nations. With their sights set on the AFCON title, the Nigerian National Team is poised to overcome Angola and secure their spot in the semi-finals.
As anticipation builds, Jose Peseiro has opted for consistency, maintaining the core lineup that secured a convincing victory over Cameroon weeks ago. However, amidst the excitement, it’s essential to dissect two key mistakes in Peseiro’s selection for this pivotal encounter.
1. Failure to Bench Zaidu Sanusi
Zaidu Sanusi’s struggles in the defensive line have been glaring throughout the AFCON tournament. The 26-year-old left-back has faltered in tracking opponents’ runs, leaving the Super Eagles vulnerable to attacks. Persisting with Zaidu Sanusi in this match risks exposing Nigeria’s defensive frailties, providing Angola with an avenue to exploit.
2. Benching Kelechi Iheanacho.
In a decision that raised eyebrows, Jose Peseiro opted to keep Kelechi Iheanacho on the bench, overlooking his prowess in both creativity and goal-scoring. With his ability to apply relentless pressure on Angola’s defense, Iheanacho could have been a game-changer. Choosing to start Moses Simon, who has struggled to perform consistently, over Kelechi Iheanacho appears to be a missed opportunity.

Nigeria vs Angola (LIVE UPDATES): Super Eagles set for tough Palancas Negras test
Nigeria’s hunger for a fourth AFCON title is very apparent, and navigating past Angola is therefore a must in keeping the dream alive

After roundly dispatching the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon at the Felix Houphouƫt-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan last Saturday, the Super Eagles are back for another crunch clash at the same venue.
On Friday evening, Jose Peserioās team has a tricky test against Angolaās Palancas Negras, and the reward for victory is a place in the semi-final.
While the Super Eagles are favourites on the strength of their AFCON successes and higher FIFA ranking, the 2023 AFCON tournament has proven to be one for underdogs, a development that swings the pendulum in favour of the Angolans.
Nigeriaās mean defensive output, which has conceded just a goal in four matches, will seek to stay intact against one of the tournamentās most potent strike forces.

Certainly, the stakes are high for both teams, leaving no margin for errors.
Angola, currently enjoying a three-match winning streak, can secure a historic first-ever appearance in the AFCON semifinals with a fourth consecutive victory, this time against Nigeria.
