Liverpool forward Diogo Jota earned praise from Sky Sports pundit Jay Bothroyd during the Reds’ Europa League meeting with Toulouse.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool fell to a controversial 3-2 defeat in France, with VAR ruling out a late goal that would’ve given the Reds a point.

Jarell Quansah scored to seemingly make it 3-3 in the seventh minute of added time, and referee Georgi Kabakov appeared to already be pointing to the centre circle.

However, the referee was called to the VAR screen, and the goal was ruled out. This was due to the ball bouncing off Alexis Mac Allister’s chest into his upper arm much earlier in the move.

That said, Liverpool weren’t really at the races, with Toulouse taking a 2-0 lead by the hour mark and, after an own goal halved the deficit, adding a third in the 76th minute.

Jota came on in the 80th minute and he kept up his impressive goalscoring record in the 89th minute of the encounter.

The 26-year-old drove at the heart of the Toulouse defence, veered towards the left and fired the ball into the bottom corner of their net..

Bothroyd, covering the game on Sky Sports News, liked what he saw from the Liverpool ace.

“I keep getting it wrong!! There’s light for Liverpool now,” he said, as per the Sky Sports website.

“Another great goal. Jota was so direct, he’s glided past a defender and side-footed into the goal.

“That’s what they’ve been missing. I think Jota is underrated.”

Jota a crucial asset for Liverpool

Jota is a manager’s dream. He’s talented, works hard, has the right attitude even when not starting all the time, and hits the ground running whenever called upon.

This season, he has seven goals from 15 outings spanning 790 minutes of football. That’s efficiency.

While Liverpool were below par for most of the game, there were some positives. Jota’s cameo was certainly one of those.
