The former West Ham United midfielder and Sky Sports pundit has shared what United coaches have been saying about Mainoo.

So, what has Jobi McAnuff said about Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo? Let’s take a look.

Praise for Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo

Well, Jobi McAnuff has been raving about Kobbie Mainoo. The former West Ham United player and Sky Sports pundit has noted the attributes of the Manchester United midfielder that make him special.

McAnuff has said that Mainoo is not just a defensive midfielder. The Sky Sports pundit has pointed out that the goal that the teenager scored against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League last week underlines that he is more just than a holding player in the middle of the season.

The pundit has also shared what he has been told about Mainoo by his coaches at Manchester United.

McAnuff said about Mainoo on Sky Sports: “I think probably the big point with that goal the other night, I think, when you speak to people at Manchester United, coaches who have worked with him, he has got so much more to his game than we have seen in terms of that number 6 defensive midfielder position.

“He seems like a real all-rounder when you look at someone like a Seedorf, someone who would do absolutely everything in that midfield. He seems to be the full package, that’s for sure.”

My View: Let us not put too much pressure on Kobbie Mainoo

In my opinion, Manchester United fans need to be patient with Kobbie Mainoo. I do not think Mainoo, who loves playing with Bruno Fernandes, should be put under too much pressure right now.

While we all should be excited by Mainoo and should look forward to seeing how he does whenever he takes to the pitch, we must not forget that he is only 18. He is still a teenager.

Mainoo is just starting his career. Manchester United as a club are not having the best of times, and I think that everyone needs to protect a talent like Mainoo, who could even be called up to Gareth Southgate’s senior England squad in March.

I think that the England Under-19 international midfielder should be allowed to develop and grow at his own pace.

Man United splashed out £72million to sign Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta this summer and the young Dane now has four goals in his last four Premier League games.

Goals in the Premier League are becoming like London buses for Rasmus Hojlund. He must have been listening to Roy Keane’s ‘advice’ as the Manchester United starlet finally starts to pay back his £72million fare.

A few eyebrows were raised when United chose Hojlund as their replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo after the five-time Ballon d’Or winner left Old Trafford for a second time under controversial circumstances. Having flirted with a swoop for Harry Kane before he headed to Bayern Munich instead, it was the young Dane they bought.

Due to an inflated market, United had to cough up £72million to get their man, but they parted with that cash for the striker Hojlund could become and not the one they currently have at their disposal. That shift is now unfolding at a rapid rate in the midst of criticism from the club’s iconic ex-captain.

Keane, as equally hard-nosed in the TV studio as he was as a player, tore into Hojlund before the Tottenham game last month and his comments have, seemingly, had the desired effect. Hojlund netted three minutes into that draw – no sooner than Keane put his microphone down – and now has four in as many top-flight appearances.

“He’s been allowed some time to bed himself into the club and into English football,” Keane uttered on Sky Sports. “But we’re talking about Manchester United.

“These players don’t have desire to score, and he’s [Hojlund] not shown it. There have been players that have come to Manchester United and we’ve spoken about how ‘unlucky’ they are.

“But you can’t keep waiting.” United and Keane didn’t have to…

The ever-popular Irishman continued: “He’s had chances and he’s had an injury when he arrived, so you might give him the benefit of the doubt, but the shooting and scoring statistics are so poor it’s unbelievable. It’s also down to the players around him – the more experienced ones – and I don’t see that desire in them.”

Having passed up one or two good chances against Wigan in the preceding FA Cup tie, Hojlund took matters into his own hands in the Tottenham draw with a stunning opener. Further consecutive goals have followed against Wolves and West Ham, while he also hit the net pre-Tottenham in a magical comeback win over Aston Villa.

Early-season form in the Champions League – where he netted five goals in six outings – offered United more than enough encouragement that Hojlund would eventually come good. His record at Atalanta was not particularly eye-catching, either, but for Denmark he has hit the net seven times in his first 10 caps.

However, it was always his Premier League return on which he was going to be judged.

Comparisons with Manchester City sensation Erling Haaland were unfair, and premature, while being pursued as a replacement for Ronaldo and alternative to Kane came with unnecessary pressure, too. After a challenging start to life at Old Trafford, the Dane has responded and shut Keane down.

And there will be nobody happier about that than United’s former captain.
