No Mainoo: Man Utd’s Strongest XI After Deadline.
EPL_Ruben Amorim Abandoned His 3-4-3 System
Manchester United have enjoyed one of their best transfer windows in recent memory, but also haven’t started the season well, which has led to big question marks about how their campaign will pan out.
Ruben Amorim’s side have suffered defeat to Arsenal and Grimsby, drawn with Fulham and claimed a thrilling win over Burnley thanks to a 97th minute penalty from captain Bruno Fernandes last time out.
But with the transfer window now closed, the manager must decide on what his strongest team is going forward if he wants to find success. GIVEMESPORT has had an attempt at putting together the best team that can come out of Old Trafford this season.
Shaw and Onana Out of Man Utd Defence
Andre Onana in action for Manchester United.
The goalkeeper position has been one of inconsistency so far this season, but Amorim has made it clear that Andre Onana is no longer his number one.
The £200,000-a-week Cameroon international has only started once, against Grimsby, and made two errors. Altay Bayindir has started all three Premier League games but has struggled too, and with the club signing Senne Lammens on deadline day, it’s clear he should be filling the gloves going forward.
The back three has been ever-present in the league so far with Leny Yoro, Matthijs De Ligt and Luke Shaw, but Shaw should be nowhere near this team. Ayden Heaven deserves a nod when available, but when everyone is fit it’s clear that Lisandro Martinez should be starting in that left centre-back role. That would leave the likes of £390,000-a-week duo Shaw and Harry Maguire on the sidelines too.
No Place for Kobbie Mainoo in Midfield
The end of the transfer window saw lots of speculation over the future of Kobbie Mainoo, who wants to play more regularly, but the truth is that there isn’t a place for him in the strongest team.
The central midfield pairing Amorim has opted for most is Casemiro and captain Fernandes, which provides a great balance of energy, positioning, goal threat and defensive contribution. That is arguably the best combination too, despite the qualities Mainoo has, although there is clear room for improvement.
Patrick Dorgu is the clear best option to start as the left wing-back with his pace, energy and qualities suiting the role perfectly. Right wing-back is a bit more tricky, but with Diogo Dalot able to play both sides and being more naturally defensive, it means that Amad should get the nod more often than not – especially since he is arguably the best performer at Man Utd since Amorim’s arrival as manager.
Brand New £200m+ Attack
The main priority of the summer transfer window for Amorim was to add goals to his squad, and INEOS splashed in excess of £200m to bring in three new faces.
Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko have arrived and are undoubtedly the best options to fill the front three, with the likes of £200,000-a-week Mason Mount and Joshua Zirkzee providing quality back-up options.
Manchester United Strongest XI: Lammens; Yoro, De Ligt, Martinez; Amad, Casemiro, Fernandes, Dorgu; Mbeumo, Sesko, Cunha.
Substitutes: Onana, Maguire, Heaven, Dalot, Mazraoui, Mainoo,Ugarte, Mount, Zirkzee.
