It’s back to the drawing board for Manchester United, who have reportedly set their sights on signing a big-money Champions League star in an attempt to solve their problems.

Pressure growing on Amorim ahead of Chelsea game

Last weekend’s defeat in the Manchester derby made it just one win in four Premier League games for Man United, who needed a fast start following last season’s humiliating bottom-half finish. Despite entering the game in poor form themselves, Manchester City were once again a class above their rivals, who found themselves humbled at the Etihad.Since that result, the rumours have surrounded Ruben Amorim’s immediate future. Some reports have even suggested that INEOS have already drawn up a shortlist of options that could replace their manager, which includes the likes of Gareth Southgate, Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola and Fulham manager Marco Silva.

However, there are still reports claiming that Amorim still has the backing of the board and they respect him enough to hand him the time to turn things around at Old Trafford.

Since that result, the rumours have surrounded Ruben Amorim’s immediate future.

There’s no denying that INEOS have backed Amorim throughout his reign, even as he has struggled. They invested around £200m to improve his squad with Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Senne Lammens in the summer transfer window, so there is little excuse for their manager to fall back on.

There could yet be further investment on the way, too. Ahead of 2026, transfer rumours are already beginning to emerge as to who Man United could sign to turn things around under Amorim.

Man Utd interested in £70m Real Madrid star Camavinga

As reported by Caught Offside, Man United are now interested in signing Eduardo Camavinga from Real Madrid in 2026. The midfielder has fallen down the pecking order under Xabi Alonso and a race between the likes of United, Chelsea and Newcastle for his signature is now beginning to form.

Valued at €80m (£70m) by Real Madrid, the Champions League star won’t come cheap and would have to become the fourth player that Man United have spent big on in the space of a year if they want to secure his arrival.

Despite his hefty price-tag, Camavinga is a player that would prove to be worth every penny at Old Trafford. The Frenchman, who is represented by the same CAA Stellar agency as Kobbie Mainoo, was described as an “incredible player” by scout Jacek Kulig last year and is still just 22 years old.

In one statement-making swoop, United could land the solution to their midfield problems, amid links of a move away from Old Trafford for Mainoo.
