Manchester United’s new goalkeeper, Senne Lammens, has been open about the challenges that may await him at Old Trafford.
His brother, Tom Lammens, who currently plays for Belgian lower-league side Borsbeek, has spoken candidly about his initial doubts surrounding the move. While thrilled about the scale of the opportunity, Tom admitted he thought a transfer to Galatasaray might have been a more suitable step for Senne at this stage of his career.
🗣️ “There’s a lot of quality, you play for trophies there [at Galatasaray], and Senne could perhaps immediately make his mark in the Champions League,” Tom explained in an interview with Belgian outlet Nieuwsblad.
Tom confessed that he was “initially sceptical” about Senne’s decision to choose Manchester United. He cited the club’s recent history of big-name signings who struggled to cope with the immense pressure and expectations at Old Trafford. “Many players there had already succumbed to the pressure and couldn’t reach their full potential,” he added.
Still, the younger Lammens made it clear that the final choice rested with Senne himself. Despite the uncertainty, the 22-year-old keeper ultimately felt most convinced by United’s vision and ambition. “It was Senne who had to make the decision. United gave him the best feeling,” Tom concluded.
The remarks highlight both the excitement and the caution surrounding Lammens’ arrival at Manchester United. With André Onana firmly established as first-choice keeper, Senne will need to show patience and resilience to carve out his place. For his family, the concern lies in whether the pressures of Old Trafford will allow him to thrive—or whether another environment might have accelerated his rise.
Regardless, Senne Lammens now has the platform of a lifetime, and his brother, like many fans, will be watching closely to see if he can make
his mark.
